North Side residents prepare a renewed petition to county commissioners to replace the aging North Main Street bridge over Rock Run creek with a modern arch. The old bridge has long been deemed inadequate and a hazard, with prior council and commissioner reviews ending without action.
A benefit vaudeville show is planned in Elkhart tonight to aid the stranded Bluebeard Jr cast after their finances failed following a Bucklen appearance. An Elkhart donor offers his room for the performance and proceeds will help cover their return to New York. James O. Barlow has won a $22.40 judgment against Mme Donna Seymour and a justice of the peace ordered the sale of her $200 bulldog.
W. W. Hatch & Sons have received a big roller and the Purl street foundation will be prepared for brick paving. Work will start at the east end. Klopfenstein & Himebaugh, the downtown alley contract, expect to begin operations next week as bricks arrive daily.
J. D. Umbenhour, famed for teaching more singing schools than any other in the United States, visited the Syracuse area and shared stories of “ye olden times.” He still plays his prized fiddle, delighting listeners old and young.

J. W. Shiffer & Son announce the opening of a new grocery at 227 South Main street on Saturday. The store offers a full general line of groceries with a specialty in home baked pastry and emphasizes modern up-to-date stock and low prices to please customers.
A meeting of the Commercial Exchange will be held Monday morning at 9 30 in the Exchange rooms. All members are requested to attend as committees report and decisions will be taken on summer band concerts.
Edgar Lehman a 17 year old student and son of a Lititz Pa man was taken to Toledo by Special Officer Greenwood after being unruly at Go shen college. He had taken up drinking and was disorderly at school at his father's request he was sent home.
Polly Neff transfers 95 acres in Concord township to Daniel Neff for 9500 dollars. Frederick Obenhouser sells a lot in Elkhart to Malinda Thompson for 1000 dollars. Jane Essig transfers 20 acres in Harrison township to John H. Essig and others for 700 dollars. John Lower conveys 59 acres in Elkhart township to Solomon N. Klase for 1140 dollars.
Preparatory to installing a complete telephone system for dispatching Go shen South Bend cars, the Chicago South Bend and Northern Indiana company moved several inspectors to conductor runs. FH. F. Gaffney of South Bend will supervise the Elkhart Goshen end of the line.

Albin Ludwig of Mishawaka was given a life prison term in Michigan City after a motion for a new trial was overruled. Ludwig's defense lodged exceptions and 60 days to file a general bill of exceptions. An appeal to the state supreme court was granted. He will be moved to Michigan City soon. Ludwig formerly lived in Hikhart.

Dr. W. H. Nusbaum formerly of Goshen now of Auburn visited the city to promote a Texas land venture. He seeks 25 000 acres and is organizing a colony in Elkhart and Lagrange counties for settlement and development.

Comrade McClumsky, a civil war veteran who vanished over 40 years ago and recently reappeared in Kendallville, was seen in Goshen yesterday. He recalled his time here during the rebellion, said he worked in the city, and asked for Ike M. Carpenter and Ed Hubbell. He gave a blunt reply about being a wild youth who outgrew it, noting service in the Philippines and Alaska.
