H A Wickham held in Joliet as authorities pursue his partner Hower Patterson after a prior nine month sentence for burglary at Middlebury. Sheriff Eliott and deputies press the case amid reform school pleas and potential indictments for horse blankets and hay theft.
A Woodmen of the World dance at McNaughton hall drew about fifty couples with Case’s five piece orchestra and contortion acts by William Barretta of Buffalo. Winona Reading Circle hosted a 5 o’clock tea at East Washington street, and Lloyd Wagner plans a May 19th boat party at McNaughton ball. Last night Mrs. Weyburn hosted English Lutheran ladies. Catholic Maccabees face withdrawal over secrecy. Edward Swigart infant death noted. funeral set in Cocigoati after J C heek Sr. departed Cincinnati on Big Four.
Mishawaka police found a partially undressed man in a stairway to Dr. Borley’s, insisting he lived there. He claimed Goshen as his home, had money and South Bend tickets, and liquor cargo that made him disoriented. He was sent to the Lake Shore with a note to be dropped at Goshen.
Relatives received a tele gram announcing the death this morning in Blackfoot Idaho of Grace N wife of Frank W Beane. She was about 33 and a large daughter of the late A M Parsons. Surviving besides her husband is daughter Belle aged about 16. The family lived in Salt Lake City before moving to Idaho where Mr Beane served under Cleveland and has since practiced law.
The Continental Fraternal Union, now in receivership for over a year, faced with many Goshen policy holders, plans a likely partial settlement by next winter. Attorney A C Lindemuth indicates another potential dividend of about 10 percent.
Capt Jerry Allen fainted while seated at a Goshen Choo House lunch counter, struck his head hard, sustained a lump and lip cuts, and will be incapacitated for several days.

Manager D Carpenter of Bucklen Opera House Elkhart and Strafford Maxon visited Kenton Harbor to inspect scenery for the new Bell Opera House painted by a Columbus firm. Bucklen will be restocked during the summer.
The Lake Shore railroad will organize a police force along its lines similar to the Pennsylvania company to suppress gangs of thugs and thieves. A new missing LaPortean is Matt Moore last seen mid April, possibly in Springfield Ohio. Lizzie Hepler died by arsenic at her parents home near Nappanee. Tuttle's flouring mill at Columbia City wrecked during Monday storm, same mill recent boiler explosion that killed one. In Teuscher vs Ellaworth at South Bend the plaintiff must file a cost bond by next Monday. George Ford named special judge to hear the case.
Miss Ida Higgins daughter of a La Porte County farmer ran away from home and was found in Chicago. Her disappearance was shrouded in mystery after she left without notice and was later located by authorities.
Uriah Copenhaver a 24 year old teamster was crushed under a heavy log at Copper Broe and Zook in Nappanee while unloading. Physicians said he could not survive though he remained alive at 3 PM. He is married with four children and was moved to his home after treatment.
John W. Ray, once of Goshen and later of Southern Illinois, asserts Chaplain Irank M. Wells is truthful about liquor traffic on the island and calls the Isle of Schlitz and Pabst beer the notable American industry. He says the war drags on for political reasons and soldiers are eager to fight but not given the chance. Troop redeployments are a sham and thousands of soldiers are dishonorably discharged over the conduct of the war.
Through attorney F J Lewis Meyer Jacob Michalski the sixth ward South Bend councilman candidate filed a mandamus petition to force City Clerk Hall to issue his certificate of election. The mandamus suit to reconvene the canvassing board and count fourth precinct returns did not proceed yesterday as Republicans made no move to bring the case to trial.
Elkhart county wool marketing proceeds slowly as farmers delay shearing due to cold. Output is heavy and fleece quality described as exceptionally clean. Opening price stands at twenty two cents, up three to five cents from last year as wool sells quickly after clipping. Park at Cripe junction discussed. Mr Cripe deeded ground to city. Deceased David Kerr reported in Goshen from pneumonia. Insurance adjusters settle J W Morrice residence loss at five hundred sixty one dollars and seventy three cents with Leaming and Schaefer as local agents.
Former Elkhart County resident Tillman Hilwish, longtime onetime Clinton township farmer, has been accepted as a Mexican citizen by President Diaz. Now based in Juarez, Hilwish was once wealthy, owning 1200 acres and a major livestock trade, later buying lands across California and several western states before moving to Mexico.
Gen. MacArthur's first Manila death report lists Burton Cottill of Indianapolis Co. E 30th Infantry as dead. The letter to the Indianapolis Press notes Cottill's demise and mentions Capt. Fitzgerald of the same regiment after Cottill's service in Indiana units. F. V. B. Minnich leaves Goshen for Sidney Ohio for a Warner Manufacturing Co. post, planning to sell in Minnesota and the western states. He relocates his family to Cleveland for headquarters and expresses local regret.
A Goshen writer in the Elkhart Truth insults a well known resident and claims he took an email boy's bicycle and hid it in a saloon. Abraham Peck of the Goshen Liquor Co reportedly found a bicycle in front of the saloon and brought it inside thinking it forgotten. The writer's pieces are dismissed as not worth much.
The last will and testament of Dwight C. Clapp, deceased, was filed for probate Monday by his widow Cora M. Clapp the sole legatee. The estate is valued at about 4500.
A railway scheme by the Nickle Plate aims to build a loop from Mentone through Warsaw, intersecting the main line at South Whitley to promote Winona park travel during the summer months.
Grover Anderson, sent to New York City for music study, grows homesick and receives money from his mother Mrs. Letta Anderson to return home. He has been in New York only a few days. The Tuxedo Minstrel company held its first meeting at the K of P hall last evening and rehearsed several ballads and choruses. Performance date not yet fixed.
The school board will elect a member to succeed D. W. Neidig at the council meeting on Monday evening June 4th. No candidates had been mentioned at this time.
Congress adjourns after approving a bill to construct a dam across the St. Joseph River in Michigan. The measure advances local flood control and water management projects pending final action.
