WABASH Ind May 7 AP A domestic quarrel ends with Ed Hart 50 beating his wife with a hammer fracturing her skull. He then killed himself after his daughter ran to neighbors for help. Police say they were called to the scene after the alleged assault Saturday night.
The county board of commissioners approved a petition signed by numerous citizens to raise Judge W. B. Hille of the superior court from 4200 to 4740 under a recent law. The Elkhart city board of works requested reflooring the Bridge street bridge. County Engineer Cr. Kinney was asked to investigate.
Manager H. Ross Franklin completes prep of the Lake Wawasee dancing pavilion in Waco. An augmented Franklin orchestra with two pines will perform Friday evening. One admission covers the whole night as the entire floor, over 2080 square feet, is opened for opening night.
At latest reports Mrs Arlie Eagte Barger of Bilkbart suffers a fractured skull when a motorcycle and sidecar struck a turning vehicle at Dunlap. She is resting as well as can be expected though condition described as serious.
King George and Queen Mary of England arrived in Rome at 3 PM marking the start of their long planned visit to Italy. The royal party will tour key sites and meet Italian officials during the stay in Rome.
Ray Tukes had a charge of stealing a motorcycle dismissed in Justice Whisler's court after an early arrest. Nellie Fuhr’s theft charge was also dismissed last week due to lack of grounds, leaving both cases unresolved.

Subpoenas issued for students and university officials as Evanston officials prepared to testify before a grand jury investigating a death. State's Attorney Crowe plans further steps to identify those with knowledge of the killing.

Edward Pike a 16 year old foster son of Joseph Pike of Elkhart was sentenced to the state reformatory at Jeffersonville for three to five years after pleading guilty in Elkhart Superior Court to stealing an automobile owned by Edward Paul of Elkhart last Friday.
Joseph M. Farrell D Kenneth Knox Leonard Russell Neff and Harry Rippey of the Goshen Sash and Door force visited Niles Michigan Saturday for an annual building show where the factory display was prepared by Neff and Rippey.
Secretary Hughes and Acting Secretary of War Davis discussed U S steps to free Americans captured by Chinese bandits on the Shantung border. In Peking reports say 15 passengers were taken captive on the Lincheng Peking line. one Briton killed and several Americans held.
Washington May 7. The state department pledges vigorous demands for restitution if any American loses life to Chinese bandits. The crisis follows an attack on Charles Coltthan last fall and may stall talks unless China shows willingness to compensate.
Bandits seized 150 passengers on the Shanghai Peking express near the Shantung border. Miss Lucy Aldrich sister in law of John D Rockefeller Jr and Miss Coralli were among captives released. One American was killed. Troops pressed the bandits as officials warned it could take risks to free remaining captives.
Report from Peking says Robert Scripps, American newspaper publisher, is among captives taken by train bandits on the Shantung border. Also captured are Major Pinger of the American army and his two sons. Mrs. Pinger escaped. Miss Aldrich, daughter of the late United States Senator Nell, is mentioned. Continued on page five.
