The Township 69 Convention met yesterday with a Sagely attendance at the First Methodist Church. Members gathered for spiritual services and communal remarks, reflecting on church activities and future plans for the group.
The British have entered Bullecourt near the von Hindenburg line and fight Germans in the town. Gen Haig widens the breach in the line as German counterattacks fail. French forces press toward Laon and Soissons with large German losses, prisoners totaling 29,000 since April 19.
The public service commission in Indianapolis reports evidence of a coal price fixing scheme in Indiana. Shippers and large buyers allege a mysterious Mr Hall of Terre Haute acts as the state price fixer. Mines operate at only 30 to 40 percent capacity.
A Ford touring car owned by Robert Sanger collided with an Oldsmobile owned by J. G. Oppenheim and driven by Robert Grady at the Main and Purl streets intersection. Damages were about $4.25 to the Ford and $25 to the Olds. Occupants escaped injury. A second incident saw Milton Wysong’s Ford touring car, driven by his son Gerald, damaged when it skidded into the curb at Monroe and Seventh streets on Friday evening.

Chas. FE Neidig owner of Famous Horn plans to enter the horse in the short ship circuit this year after an injury kept it from racing last season. Harry Clemens trains the animal. Two years ago Famous Horn was among the locality's most promising thoroughbreds and Neidig bought it for $1,000.
The United States government approved a $100,060,000 loan to Great Britain for May needs. A second installment of $25,000,000 was transferred to the British embassy, with another $25,000,000 loaned Saturday, totaling half of the May loan.

Mrs. Eliza Jane Starr aged 83 longtime Goshen resident died at 10 30 this morning at the home of her son Martin V Starr 408 E Lincoln avenue following paralysis and old age She joined First M E church over 65 years ago and came to Goshen from Hicks ville Ohio Surviving are three sons Thomas Starr Martin V Starr and W D Starr of Toledo two sisters Mrs J B Snyder of Toledo and Mrs Mary Folk of Salem Funeral arrangements will be announced tomorrow

Harry J. Marshall of Kalamazoo Mich is held at Elkhart on bond to the superior court for attempting to steal Dr S Barwick's Ford runabout on High street. The doctor and bystanders pursued Marshall at Lexington avenue bridge where he said he intended borrowing the car for a short time.

At the home of C. C. Tiede Taann in South Bend George W. Berry of Goshen fell on a stairway and sustained a broken arm. He was transported to a hospital by ambulance.

Beginning today Goshen bakers will not take back stale bread from grocers as state food and drug commissioner H. E. Barnard declares the practice an economic crime and must stop. Drivers are ordered not to pick up unsold bread as in the past.
Jacob Crull of Round up Montana died by his own hand in Elkhart after drinking acid. Private funeral services were held at Stephens chapel. His body will be taken to Chicago tomorrow morning for cremation per his last request to be reduced to ashes.

The 157th Indiana regiment survivors plan their 18th reunion in Elkhart next Thursday. May 10 marks the annual meeting, chosen since it is the date the regiment swore into U S service in 1898. The unit trained at Camp Thomas Chickamauga Tampa Fernandina Huntsville and mustered out in November 1898. Co C of Goshen was in the regiment.

Mary C Ludwig age 69 wife of August Ludwig died Sunday at her home four miles NW of Elkhart in Cleveland township. Born in Ohio on April 30 1957 she lived in Elkhart county many years. Survived by husband Aug ust Ludwig a son Floyd and sister Mrs A R Ludwig of South Bend.
Charles FE Gorham remains in satisfactory condition after midnight appendicitis surgery at Goshen hospital. Oliver W Cunningham still in precarious condition at his home. Notable visitors include Dr Herman Kretschner and family members as updates flow from Goshen.
After a Saturday meeting at City National Bank, the Goshen Golf Club canvassing committees report strong interest for the coming season. The full convention program was presented as published Saturday.
At a Saturday auction party Miss Georgia Berry announced her engagement to Harold Conley of Elkhart son of Mr and Mrs Q M Conley. Berry daughter of Mr and Mrs George W Berry is popular among Goshen society. Conley works as Elkhart correspondent for the South Bend News Times. Wedding to occur next month with date to be announced. They will reside in Elkhart.
Warsaw speaker Jesse Eschbach travels to Indianapolis to confer with Gov. Goodrich on a possible state conscription officer role. If he accepts, he would become the final authority on conscription matters, though it is believed he will likely refuse the appointment.
Miss Florence Leese of near Syracuse and Harry E. Cripe of Goshen area were married Saturday afternoon in South Bend. The groom, longtime local worker, was widely known in the area.
W Wildsmith of Kalamazoo Michigan a member of the Canadian overseas forces was killed while fighting in France. R O Neill of Churubusco is listed among the wounded.
Mrs. Zella McMillan of Kendallville has been declared insane and will be sent to Easthaven asylum in Richmond.
