Dr Charles C Sparklin a veteran Goshen surgeon died at 5 40 PM at the Beck home 211 South Fifth Street after a long illness heart failure listed as the direct cause He lived in Elkhart county most of his life studied medicine in New York and practiced in several offices before settling in the Knapp Building He was born in October 1816 near Waterford and left a daughter Lillian and a brother John Sparklin as survivors Funeral services will be held at the Beck home with Masonic rites and burial in Sparklin cemetery Waterford He was a Republican and had served as city health officer.

Dr J J Becknell received a letter from State Veterinarian A W Betting replying to a note about pay for Ira Fleck whose cow was killed after lumpy jaw. The letter says an animal with incurable disease has only hide value and no state compensation. Perry Davis has a cow with the same disease to be killed soon.

Local Cigar Maker Charles Sweet Missing From Warsaw
Charles H. Sweet, who moved to Warsaw last fall to work with Harry A. Nye as a cigar maker and was believed to be Nye’s partner, has vanished from Warsaw since Tuesday night. Nye found Sweet absent with his working clothes and other belongings missing at the shop. Sweet’s family is without funds and the absence has puzzled Nye. The report notes Nye was in Elkhart Tuesday and returned to his store to find Sweet missing.

Plans for Winona passenger station project unveiled
Plans for a new passenger station at Winona cost from 20000 to 25000 are under consideration. Actor Frank M. Willis Dies at Fifty in Pottsville
Frank M. Willis of Willis & Co. died yesterday in Pottsville of typhoid pneumonia. A native of New York, he was about fifty and longtime star of the play Two Old Cronies. He was a Goshen favorite when Rogers Krutz tours brought Wills Henshaw and Ten Broeck there. Henshaw and May Ten Broeck now appear in A Chinese Honeymoon.

H F Duncan of Milwaukee who spoke here last year for the Manville fire Extinguishing Co. died at Marion Monday evening of cerebral fever after several days illness. He was sixty five years old and made many friends in this city during his visit. He traveled widely in commercial work with Byron Cornell of this city.
