General Leonard Wood carried Lagrange county by about 200 in the Republican presidential nomination race. Glen R. Sawyer won the county for prosecuting attorney in the 34th circuit. Charles O S Nichols was nominated for joint representative from Lagrange Noble and Steuben counties defeating Munton and Waddell. In South Bend, Hir am W. The Association of Railway Executives proposes freight rate hikes of 30.4 percent for eastern railroads, 80.0 percent for southern lines, and 76.0 percent for western roads to the Interstate Commerce Commission. Mishawaka man T J Newman killed in Michigan car crash

T J Newman a former Mishawaka resident and brother of Fred L Newman was killed in an automobile accident at Big Rapids Michigan. A telegram had no details. He was the son of the late Joseph Newman about 40. Surviving are his wife and one child.

Ex-Moose Win Three Delegates at State Convention

Honors were divided between two delegate slates for Elkhart township at the Republican state convention. The compromise ticket won four, the ex Progressives three. Vail, Banta, and Abshire won seats. Berkey led with 455 votes, Burris 42, Kinnisen 0, others listed.

Motors on tour entertain South Bend area crowd

Motor trucks under the South Bend Auto Dealers' association came from Nappanee this afternoon. The party including the Jackie band from Great Lakes Naval Training Station dined at the Alderman hotel. A track demonstration and a band concert were held on Main Street.
