Elkhart County's progress on the Victory Loan shows subscriptions rapidly swelling toward the quota. Farmers and Trader Bank at Nappanee and Middlebury State Bank report reaching their goals. New York Central Railroad and other entities have subscribed recent amounts.
Smoke poured from an adjacent building into the Shoup and Robler tailor shop as a severe electrical storm raged yesterday afternoon. Paul Shoup alerted the fire department and no damage was reported.

The Elkhart County Board of Commissioners met in regular session this morning and continued into the afternoon. Bids for county infirmary supplies were opened and contracts awarded to Ziesel Bros, The Fair Store, and Louis Shuen & Co. Pending petition from Ilde J. Castetter requesting county funds for premiums to Elkhart exhibitors was postponed until a later date.
The city school district enumeration reports 2 070 children of school age with 686 attending school. 2080 are employed and 22 are unemployed. four hundred and six are ages 14 to 16 working on employment tickets. High school records show 4 children aged 14 to 16 employed.
Mrs. Nora Zeidler 63 of Goshen died at her residence near South Bend at 1 p m Sunday after a two year illness of locomotor ataxia. She was the wife of Christian Zeidler and survived by her husband adopted daughter Eldora two brothers and one half brother. Born in Goshen December 27 1883 she moved to South Bend several years ago.
H Joseph has sold his place at 1 Sent Main Street to three men from Providence. Louis Verhulas Peter Kerhulas and Peter Penlus are the new owners who have taken possession. Reported price is $2000 for the business.
Ephraim Long resigns as trustee of Osole township effective immediately. County Commissioners appoint his brother Edmond A. Long as successor. The new trustee is not a Concord township teacher.

Marian S. Leaming of Chicago formerly of Goshen is described as employed in the law department of the Belt Railway Company of Chicago at Dearborn Station. He previously served in the claim department of the Monon Railroad, with headquarters at Lafayette, and resides with his family at HH Wayne Avenue in Chicago.

Funeral services for Dr Albert Roy Messick of South Bend formerly of Goshen were held this afternoon at his father's home 119 North Third Street Rev E A Vannings First Presbyterian Church officiating Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery Pall bearers included Donald Ivens Charles Francis Guy Dausman William Fobes J Vene Lehman and Harry Vernon The body was transported to Goshen for services at the First Presbyterian Church led by Rev A Lippincott University Club and St Joseph County Dental Association members attended in bodies.

Mrs. Emory LaBelle 6 died at home in Elkhart after heart trouble and complications. Survived by husband four sons two daughters three brothers and one sister. Funeral tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at home. Duavia Wagner 65 died at his Elkhart home of acute Brights disease. Survived by wife one son two daughters. Former New York Central engineer for 39 years. Body to be sent to Trar porte for burial.
In Good Health Mrs Jane Messick of Chicago formerly of Goshen widow of P C Messick who was here today to attend the funeral of her grandson Dr Albert Roy Messick is in excellent health and well.
Chas Ralph and Gerrett Enyeart of the L. M. Nehr company at Warsaw have taken positions with the Kelly Motor Co and will move their families to Goshen as soon as possible.
