A Democratic organization claims near perfection in campaign setup for Goshen municipal election with expectations of a large turnout. Republicans rally behind Alderman citing personal attacks, while Rigney faces opposition within his own party. Weather forecast notes cloudy conditions with possible rain and continued talk of a strong Democratic win and broad cross-party support.
Lloyd Jevne world three cushion champion gave an 8 to 10 pm exhibition at Stateman and Groves South Main Street parlors before about 200 spectators. Abe Berger played a 100 point exhibition, scoring 78. Jevne displayed many difficult shots with ivory balls. a fine cue was won by Tony Grove. Records from Dr D L Miller's office show higher school attendance this year. March enrollment rose to 1573 from 1544, with average belonging up from 1303.8 to 1366.6 and daily attendance from 1242.9 to 1291.2. April attendance also increased from 1576 to 1609.
A fire alarm was turned in just before noon from box 22 at Main street and Lincoln avenue. An ironing board in Cleveland's Santorium on the second floor of the Mummert building on South Main street caught fire and was thrown into the street. In the confusion and thinking the building was on fire, a false alarm was sent. The fire department responded quickly.
Several Goshen parties who went to Wawasee Sunday were caught in the rain and did not return until early this morning. The season at the resort is not fairly under way as yet. Land lord Wiggins of the Inn reports many applications for accommodations during the summer. Among the hot weather visitors will be people from Indianapolis Fort Wayne Louisville and several Ohio towns.
Anthony Deahl of this city has accepted an invitation to deliver the Memorial Day address at Syracuse. Rev Richart will preach Memorial services on the Sunday before May 25 inviting all to attend.
The common council holds a regular meeting tonight with little business expected. This is the final session of the old council before the newly elected members take their seats next week.
Police were summoned to the home of Sam Stewart on Third street for a family dispute but no arrests were made. In Chisago Grant Niccum and Delia Overlease married in Chicago and plan to live in Vanda North Dakota. Misa Holsaple of Goshen and Geo Rice married in Elk Hart Elkhart yesterday. bride well known and employed at Conn's factory. Councilman Stoutenour reports 11 miles 2600 feet of cement walk laid over four years. Goshen boasts fine streets and sidewalks. A campaign note urges voters to support George F Alderman for mayor citing his city-building record and tax contributions.
Goshen News reports Chairmen Garvin released a statement on the city's financial condition. It shows total indebtedness at 103000 plus, a decrease of about 8965 in the past year, debt structure and interest rates, and tax distribution plans for the coming year. It also outlines provisions for city government branches and argues debt reduction exceeding 14000 is possible next year.
The West Lincoln avenue project west of the river bridge progresses with sewer work to replace the dangerous ditch on the south side. Councilman Butterfield and sewerage committee members Mersin Mishler Kronk back the effort. The completed road will be broad and leveled from walk to walk, improving safety for travelers and preventing past horse mired incidents.

The Indiana division of the Travelers' Protective association closed its most successful convention in South Bend. National Secretary L F LaBaume of St. Louis praised it as the greatest state gathering in T P A history. Officers were elected and Indianapolis won the right to host the 1908 convention.

She advertised as a wealthy widow with $60 000 seeking a husband across many states and foreign countries. The charge is using the mails with intent to defraud.
Instructions for voters on marking a straight or mixed ticket with crosses. It explains marking the circle for straight tickets, the square beside names for mixed tickets, and selecting two of four councilmen per ward. If unsure, voters should call a clerk for guidance in the booth.

Her mother Mrs West of Middlebury, brother George Cornell, and cousin Mrs M J Hickox stay at her bedside awaiting favorable news. Mrs Reycraft wed less than two months ago. The first Big Four excursion to Indianapolis ran Sunday with twenty three tickets sold from this station.

John Fisher, longtime Kosciusko county sale crier, died Friday afternoon of paralysis at about 75. He lived two miles south of Sidney in Jackson township and was held in high esteem by many acquaintances. The Grand Trunk aims to extend from Edwardsburg via Niles to Buchanan and then to Benton Harbor over the new line. William L Taylor attorney general invited to speak at Chicago Bar Association banquet honoring Judge Francis E Baker May 8. Wisconsin and Illinois delegates will speak. Mr Taylor will respond for Indiana.
Trustees of the German Baptist College in North Manchester urge residents to raise $1,000 to prevent sale of the campus as the institution carries $24,000 in debt. all but $1,000 has been raised and resources are exhausted.
Early this morning the milk wagon attached to O. E. Simmons ran away north of town and smashed the vehicle causing today’s deliveries to be abandoned. No injuries were reported. Tomorrow the route will be resumed as normal. The Syracuse city ball team will play the Red Ribbon team at Tonawanda grounds tomorrow, with a promising contest anticipated.
B F Julian has moved his family from Matthews Indiana to Goshen after purchasing Goshen residence properties through Stauffer Hoover Agency and now lives on East Douglas street. County Commissioner Whetten reports a 3500 loss from the Milford Junction elevator fire, to be rebuilt for the season. H A Stauffer sold 402 North Ninth street to Mrs. Frank Drake for 1500, gaining Ligonier real estate valued at 1200.
Al Cripe has sold a property to Al Oxi in a brief transfer recorded by local officials. The deal involves a private sale with customary transfer documentation and no listed objections or conditions.
About 15 students from Goshen high school will travel to Elkhart to watch Walker Whiteside perform The Merchant of Venice at the Bucklen theater. The class studies the Shakespeare comedy as the engagement arrives at a fitting moment.
