A remonstrance was filed against Elkhart saloonkeeper Lawrence E Thorne, who faces a stiff fight for license as commissioners prepare to review applications and a fourth or fifth license may be issued. The case sits with Attorney Waltz.
A wagon carrying three boys was hit by a Lake Shore train this morning in Kalamazoo. One boy died on the scene, the other two were seriously injured perhaps fatally.
Maurice Mummert ten years old son of Mr and Mrs E E Mummert of South Sixth street was thrown from a horse on South Seventh street last evening and dragged fifty rods before freeing his left foot. He remained unconscious briefly then revived and was taken home with bruises but no broken bones. He left bed this morning and refused to blame the horse.
A large crowd watched Howe Military School play Goshen High School on the Tonawanda grounds. Goshen won 9 to 4 as Bees and Kelly led the effort with strong batting and fielding for Goshen. A separate note reports naptha launches for Lake Wawasee with plans for a busier, remodeled resort season and Goshen guests.
Four years after divorcing Mollie McKnight of St. Joseph County, Charles Sweitzer of Mishawaka wed Mollie again in Chicago after Sweitzer made wealth in Central America. Mollie’s father, James McKnight, once wealthy farmer and critic of the match, had threatened disinheritance. McKnight died two months ago. Sweitzer is brother to Rev. H. B. Sweitzer of Chicago.
Davis Malinda 68 wife of Ebenezer Davis of Benton township died at her Elkhart home from heart trouble. She leaves three children J G Davis A W Davis and Mrs Laura Cooper of Elkhart. Funeral Sunday at 2 30 p m Kane Minnie 37 wife of Abner Kane of Elkhart area died at Clark hospital. Funeral Pine Creek Monday 10 a m Pierce Dr died Osceola at 49 survived by wife and two children. Funeral services Monday.
At morning services Rev. Wm. P. Pearce will discuss spring and its lessons with communion at the close. the evening topic is Spiritualism and its claims. Prompt seating rules apply. Nearby Enoch Rhodes’s barn and residence burned, sparing the family but destroying two horses cattle hay and grain with no insurance.
Congressman Brick assigns Caleb W. Parker postmaster at Fran cesville in Pulaski county and recommends Irving W. Young of the Monterey Sun to succeed William B. Kelsey. Brick faces filling 128 offices amid heavy applicant interest. Rev John McGuire sails from Burmah March 21 for a year and a half furlough after ten years service. Joliet Standards vs South Bend Greens opens baseball season at Springbrook with 25 cent admission for men and 10 for women, extra 10 cents for grand stand. Trumpet Notes band performs at 2 pm with game at 3.
George A. Riley with the Misses Bernice Heefner and Alice Peyton set out for a southward ride from Goshen in a horse drawn locomobile. After three miles the party ran out of water and Riley walked to town while the ladies waited. he returned by late hour to drive after them.
Prof W C Palmer of Ligonier and Prof A E Malsbury of Peru visited the city to seek the superintendent post, with the school board yet to choose. City engineer and marshal measured Olive Street for a new storm sewer, and East Goshen completed a half mile sewer. Gov Durbin named Capt Edwin Nicar of South Bend to the Shiloh monument commission.
The Indiana Lumber Company has started constructing a new theatre building at Springbrook. The structure will be 185270 feet long and is expected to seat about 1,000 people.
The water works and light committee met at the station to discuss installing meters for incandescent electric service. Members fear meters will be unpopular and may drive patrons away, though some expect summer credits and winter costs to balance. no decision was reached.

Gould makes ten rapid costume and makeup changes ranging from fifteen seconds to four minutes using a die patch to create sudden, varied appearances. The production features New York presentation level scenery and a trained choir in the requiem scene, with a highly competent company contributing to the drama’s novelty and action.
The Village Postmaster completed its fifth major engagement in New York City after a long run of 227 nights. A splendid production is planned at Elihart with full scenery and effects to bring the New England life story to Backlea, Elkart.
