Voters pressuring both sides in option election as unusually active polls record strong activity. Claims surface that veterans received 2600 dollars to aid the fight. The report notes over fifty challenges in the tenth precinct where Goshen College students are located amid fine weather.
The record lists two option elections. On March 28, 1911 Goshen reported a wet majority of 146 with total vote 2380. On April 7, 1913 a wet majority of 32 with total vote 2388.
Voters in Goshen cast ballots in the third city local option election amid high interest and heavy turnout. Wet and dry camps foresee victory, with wet supporters claiming a larger majority than 1918 and 1915, while dry leaders predict a dry win possibly by 200 or more. Polls opened at 6 am in ten precincts and aim to announce results by about 7:50 pm amid college precincts facing heavy affidavit demand.
Indiana Brewers Association sent 2600 dollars to Goshen without public accounting as wets campaign fiercely. Final meetings, sermons urge dry votes, a $100 reward offered for arrests, saloons closed on election day, heavy campaigning by wets and ministers, protests at precincts, and 51 voters challenged in the Tenth precinct as drys push for turnout before saloons close for two years if dry wins.
Reid Murdoch Co of Chicago moves to build a salting station on land leased from the Bie Pour Railway Co near Main street. Wages include out of town bidders from Goshen Gatien Mich and Warsaw. The one story wood structure will cost 3500 dollars and be ready by June 19.
A 12 pound son was born to Mr and Mrs Ray Hatch of Parkside. A son was born yesterday to Mr and Mrs Charles Greer of Emerson street.

Indianapolis May 3 Special report says Attorney General Milburn ruled that seven members of the Democratic State Central Committee who hold appointive offices are automatically removed from the state committee as the new primary law took effect.
The Poultry Post Pub Co of Geshe has incorporated with capital of 4000 dollars. Directors are George W Kinnison Oliver M Kinnison and Charles A Ait ken. The firm will publish papers and journals. The News Printing Co recently purchased the Poultry Post from W T U Schaudt of Goshen.
Washington reports a new order places all of St. Joseph county Indiana in a restricted quarantined area. The change broadens the enforcement as foot and mouth disease previously raged at the outset of the outbreak in the county.
The charred bodies of two men were found in the ruins of an old cranberry building in West Lafayette. One victim is believed to be Prof. Plea. Smith, who was seen intoxicated shortly before the blaze.
Sen. Shively is again sick at his hotel in Washington. he is regarded as an invalid and can only leave his room when the weather is favorable.
In a May 3 oil explosion in her kitchen Mrs. Mary Graber 30 died from burns. Her husband and two year old child were burned but expected to recover.
Washington May 3 Special reports that by July 1 the free rural mail delivery system will be overhauled to provide service for 1,000,000 additional persons.
Dr. Lotus D. Coffman of the University of Illinois will speak at the Jefferson commencement address on Friday night and discuss the old and new points of view in education. Goshen school superintendent Mendenhall announced the event.
Unofficial figures list 2,032 children of school age in Goshen, up 350 from 1914. County Supt. Weaver is checking the returns and has not announced findings.
South Bend dried organization abandons plan for a local option election citing lack of funds. Officials say a new election may be called later once finances permit.
Many Indiana residents are traveling to the big event in San Diego, California, though Indiana is not officially represented. The report notes substantial patron interest from Indiana for the show.

Mrs. Marion Rohrer of 1002 South Main Goshen died Saturday evening after a long illness of Bright's disease at age 59. A former Jackson and Union township teacher of 25 years she also taught in Kansas and was active in the Methodist church and the Womans Home Missionary Society. Funeral at 2:30 tomorrow at her residence with Rev. E L Semans and Rev. W P Minton officiating. interment Oak Ridge cemetery.
U S marshal and four deputies tour Indiana counties including Kosciusko to serve notices on more than 30 prosecuting attorneys. A federal court in Indianapolis will hear a bid for a perpetual injunction to void the trading stamp license law. A Chicago judge’s temporary order blocks enforcement pending review by three federal judges: Kenesitw Mountain Lands, Francis E. Baker, and Julian Mrek.
Alonzo Cox of Fast Goshen reported a horse and buggy stolen from in front of the Gary Pr Kreager saloon on West Washington street about 10:30 p.m. Friday. The rig was found abandoned at the David Inbody farm seven miles southwest of Goshen. Value estimated between 50 and 75 dollars. The sellers, said to live near Peru, were implicated but theft not conclusively proven. Cox recovered his property.
The superior court today dismissed seven divorce suits: Frank F. Weaver vs Edna B. Weaver, William Nichols vs Lillian Nichols, Anna Canen vs William Canen, Rebecca Grigsby vs Alfred L. Grigsby, William G. Snook vs Myrtle Snook, Tawra M. Sparklin vs William P. Sparklin, Agnes Huntington vs George Huntington. Charges were varied. In the Robert Whitmyer vs da B. Whitmyer case the defendant filed a cross complaint.
George Ivy a colored porter at the Depot hotel in Elkhart drowned in the St Joseph river near the city yesterday afternoon after he rocked a boat with Fred Stillman a bartender. Both men were intoxicated and Ivy never surfaced. Ivy lay on the river bottom about 30 feet from the bank two hours after the accident.
George Yoker of Wagner Avenue Elkhart is under arrest on a charge of operating a blind tiger at his home. He has been released and will face city court Wednesday. Three empty beer cases and several Whisker bottles were found on the premises. Yoker pleads innocence.
Elkhart police raided a hobo camp near the Big Four railroad arresting eight fighting tramps. After reaching the jail they renewed hostilities. Tramps in Goshen were never more humorous than at present.
Under the new law Mr. Ralston appoints Gilbert H. Hendren as chief accountant of the state board of accounts to serve four years. Hendren is the current chief accountant and under the old law had about two more years to serve. He is a Democrat.
Chauncey Myers home on North Second hosted a wedding as John Peoples and Miss Al ice Myers wed at 3 pm with Rev. John Kitson officiating. Seventeen attended and a two course luncheon followed. The couple, both employed at the Five and Ten Cent store, will reside on Mill street. Sarah Freyberg enjoyed a surprise birthday gathering at her Seventh and Madison home. Bretz Bible class of the First Reformed Church will host the Deahi Bible chaise in church parlors tomorrow at 7 30 pm.
Funeral services for Wayne Carpenter were conducted at 2 30 p m yesterday at his parents home 422 South 10th Street Rev W W Foust of the First Reformed church officiated Burial followed at Oak Ridge cemetery

Mortuary record for Amando Carl Amande aged 27 who died at General hospital Elkhart from tuberculosis. Amande was a graduate of the Elkhart business college. It is believed his death was hastened by the death of a relative in Europe.
The Distemperine Fonyprny doubles capacity by building two new cooking houses on the north Plymouth road near Third street. Charles Mongold, 14 years with Goshen Mt. Co., joins as head of cooking packing and office tasks at the Distemperine plant.
The common council will convene in regular session with Acting Mayor John B. Cripe presiding. Bids for several sewers are to be opened including the Seventh street drain estimated at about $6000. It is unclear if remonstrators will seek court action.
Rail workers report numerous vagrants aboard both freights and passenger trains passing through the area with several men observed around yard limits and along the routes, reflecting a broader issue of vagrancy on the rails.
