Mail pouch falls from crane as train passes
A mail pouch hanging from a crane between Main and Wilkinson streets was dropped as Lake Shore westbound No. 15 hurried through the city at 8:46 a.m. The train did not stop, the pouch was returned to the post office, and Lake Shore officials faced criticism for failing to halt locally. Fire destroys New Paris grain elevator and threatens homes
The New Paris grain elevator owned by B. B. Brothers burned completely between 9 30 and 10 30 this morning. Flames likely started from a spark from the engine of the Big Four local freight as it passed through the village. Five residences and several other buildings were damaged while firefighters and bucket brigades defended nearby houses. The two story frame structure burned rapidly. insurance covers the $1600 loss. A large car of wheat on a nearby side track was moved before derailment. The exact bushels of corn oats and rye destroyed were not known.

Sterling Brown Detained in Elkhart Police Station
Police found Sterling Brown unconscious in Lake Shore yards and brought him to the city prison. He prayed with hands over his eyes, then staggered about in a dazed condition before identifying himself as from Chicago on a Lake Shore freight train. John Thomas Self aged 53 died at his Milford home at 9 30 last evening following a long tuberculosis illness. A well known Milford resident he leaves his wife and two brothers Marion Self of Syracuse and Sydney Self of Siler Lake. The funeral will be Friday at 10 30 a m from the residence.

Recovery Near for Freight Train Fall Victim Morris Brown
Morris Brown nearly fully recovered from injuries after being thrown from a Baltimore and Ohio freight train near Syracuse last November. He was treated at Kosciusko infirmary by Superintendent Rarick and his wife, who provided attentive care. Brown, a self described down east Yankee, praised their kindness and his ability to work again in his repair trades. Captain Jacob W. Liveringhouse, Goshen native and Ten Eyck postmaster, died in California at Ten Eyck. He suffered rheumatism and heart disease and left a wife and two children.
