In London Josephus Daniels American secretary of the navy proposes a large naval police under the League of Nations after peace is declared. He travels to discuss with Italian French and British admirals the vessel types and details needed for an international force.
A suspicious package addressed to Senator Overman was held by the Salisbury post office today after telegraphic warnings. The package, described as a bowl like item from New York, was rechecked by postal officials and kept for investigation.
In Washington misreads suggest a national building shortage linked to the 2001 state surveys. The department’s reported permits indicate U.S. building activity may total around 44 400 000 dollars, with estimates arriving after a survey of state and principal city permits.

Georg Hoy of Lauranse used a bone graft from a sheep to repair a fractured leg. The donor lamb, born on Christmas, was moved to Kirksville Missouri and killed on Easter Sunday to supply bone. Dr George Still performed the operation, which shows signs of success.
John Smith aged 67 who lived for about 25 years in Jefferson township north of Goshen died in Indianapolis. The remains will be sent to Wabas i for burial. Survived by wife three daughters and two sons. His wife formerly Miss Cynthia Stutzman daughter of George Stutzman of Elkhart county.

George Kuhn 27 a Milford blacksmith vanished after borrowing Carl Coy’s auto and driving to Waukee Lake. His boat drifted ashore with hat coat and shoes, an overcoat note said health failed and he chose death by his own actions. Coroner investigated as wife and residents note recent mood changes.
Charles Lawares and Edwin Core, the two Democratic members of the Public Service Commission, ended their terms yesterday. Gov. Goodrich declined to name successors pending further action. Edwards joined the commission March 1, 1914, appointed by Gov. Ralston, while Carr had served three years after succeeding J. Murphy, also a Ralston appointee. Edwards was formerly a Huntington banker. Corr practiced law in Bloomington before joining the commission. Edwards and Corr contributed to key commission work.
ERB Glida Erb wife of Fred Erb employed at New York Central roundhouse in Elkhart died this afternoon at her home from blood poisoning. Surviving: husband one son 14 months mother one brother and one sister. American Railways Express Co employees granted ten percent raise after new schedule eight hours daily time and a half overtime back pay dated from January 1 1919.
Funeral services for George A Gil bert of Meadowbrook turn five miles northeast of Goshen will be held in Saginaw Michigan tomorrow after his death in Buffalo New York following gallstone surgery.
Isaiah Irwin known as Dee Irwin born Elk Hart 1834 dies in Grand Rapids Michigan. Two sisters and one brother survive.
More than 100 physicians and surgeons from Michigan Ohio and Indiana attended the 4th semi annual meeting of the Northern Tri-State Medical association at Elkhart Elks temple. An afternoon session covered business followed by informal topic discussions. A 6:30 banquet at First Presbyterian preceded Prof. Stanley Coulter of Purdue University describing "The Wonderful Year" and plans for the next meeting in Kalamazoo Mich.
Pvt Charles W Hess son of Mr and Mrs H B Hess at North Ninth street writes from Meiden Germany 9 March 1919 recounting shellfire dangers and close calls, gratitude for letters, praise for soldiers and German kindness, and plans to share stories on return. He notes Pershing praise and asks recipient to show the letter to his father.
H. K. Bishop of Washington D C has been named chief engineer of the Indiana state highway commission at a salary of 87000 a year. He has served as district engineer for the bureau of good roads U S department of agriculture and will receive roughly twice the salary of LeFe Wrist director of the commission who earns 2600 a year.
A Holstein-Pretsian association has been organized in Nappanee. The members are enthusiastic and it is expected the association will benefit the county daily interests. Officers elected include President George Freese Secretary T Blosser Treasurer Clatton Sashiy.
