The Hotel Hascall is under construction for a west side addition measuring 22 by 82 feet on the north end. Two stories will include four rooms a bath and sewing space. Contractors Isbell and Smith at work and the project will relieve cramped conditions for guests at the central western state hotel.
Lakesbore officials decide to increase through freights to ninety to one hundred cars this summer. Side tracks along one line are being lengthened to allow longer trains to pass passenger services. The move, opposed by train workers, will require two crews to handle work that previously used three, risking layoffs.
Wm H Crawford, known traveling agent for Rock Island Route, will locate in Buffalo to manage the eastern offices to be established there. Rock Island has leased the former Lake Shore offices at 297 Main Street as part of the consolidation of multiple Vanderbilt lines in Buffalo.
Several weeks ago about 15 section men on the Big Four went on strike drawing $1.25 per day and seeking a 20 percent raise. Today nearly all section employees on this division quit, foremen cannot fill positions, and crews scour the line for rail breaks while no track or roadbed maintenance is performed.
Mrs. L. F. Hall wife of Hall & Long circus proprietor sues Pennsylvania Railway in Columbus Indiana for 15000 damages claiming her private car on a sidetrack was struck by a switch engine last February. Hall & Long are Elkhart residents. Changing Rules: Big Four Michigan division overhauls rules removing many old provisions adding new ones and modifying others. changes printed on time cards as supplements to the rule book.
Baltimore and Ohio officials consider making Albion a flag stop only. Citizens call it an outrage and form a committee to petition the road to keep stops for trains Nos. 16 and 13 and to restore stops for other trains.
Goshen players expect an easy victory as Elkhart high, bruised by losses, meets the high school team tomorrow afternoon. A large crowd is expected to witness the visiting squad. Miss Margaret Carver, former Albion High principal turned missionary in India, will wed Rev D S Exns perger on March 2 in Raichur India. Seed distribution at Eldmn Brick continues until stock runs out with 800 extra allotment approval for newspapers and others.
The report notes the death of Lake Shore conductor James Connolly near Osceola. Special Judge W J Davistein LeGrange presides as judge in the School Case in LaGrange. Listings include divorce suit, lavish costs, and numerous real estate transfers in Elkhart and Goshen. A $25 000 soldiers monument dedication at South Bend is planned for June 25. A Wabash Rich Valley post office burglary yielded $75 stolen with $15 in value.
In Elkhart last evening a bullet pierced Emil Anderson’s Jackson Street saloon plate glass, passed over bar patrons, and lodged in the back wall. Police cannot identify shooter or source, with murder speculation and no clear conclusion. Four plumbers struck for 40 cents an hour and an eight hour day, up from 35 cents. Efforts to settle the dispute proceed. Elkhart council seeks fenders on streetcars and arrests were made under the ordinance.
Editorial urges curb on automoblie speed citing New York law. It proposes licensing chauffeurs, progressive fines up to 250 dollars, imprisonment, and license revocation for repeated offenses.
The Churubusco Truth clashes with Goshen Fort Wayne over local commerce fears. Jacob B. Cornell claims Goshen is the only U.S. city within New York outline with an underground railroad and notes a June start on Eighth Street. Angola reports stakes for an Angola Goshen electric line and a carload of grading tools arrives for the Ohio and Indiana Railway Company to Lake James, with work to begin soon.

A M Baxter of Decatur injured by a horse. Poneto towns fearful over white cap notices and threats. Ebeneseruck, 68, dies in Pleasant Mills, Adams Co. Roebuck, Civil War veteran, 68, of Marys Twp. Mrs. Gene Trout accused of swindling by umbrella mendes. Mrs. Trout reports men demanded money at gunpoint. Joseph Lavenberger of Scottship, Kosciusko Co., involved.
Finestone Iola two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs D M Firestone died at home in Bremen Saturday evening of measles. Remains taken to Wakarusa Monday and laid to rest in North Union. Ragina Catharine Rarig 78 of Napannes died after weeks of lagrippe. One of fourteen children survives. Funeral at Mennonite church Saturday 10 o clock by Rev Moore. Interment Brick cemetery.
Society notes report the W C T U will meet Saturday at 8 pm at Mrs Wm Elliott 115 North Fifth Street for a mother’s meeting on Boys and Girls from 14 to 20 with Mrs O W Cunningham leading. Friends invited.
