Easter will be observed with services across Goshen churches. The Presbyterian, Baptist, Episcopal, Lutheran and Methodist congregations host morning Holy Communion, Sunday schools, concerts, and special music programs featuring choirs, solos, and instrumental selections.
Marion dispatch reports Sheriff J B McGuffin narrowly escaped two shotgun blasts at ten feet while on the ground. In the confrontation he wounded Clifford Skinner, a prisoner jailed in Grant County. McGuffin, formerly of the area, is alive and uninjured, half brother of Mrs J V Morrice.
Miss Bertha Kromer a Chicago born milliner has eloped from Mishawaka with Thomas Monahan of Mishawaka Woolen Mfg Co. Both are at large with local efforts to locate them. Kromer described as nearly six feet tall and striking brunette from Mt. Carroll Illinois.
The men and congregation of the First ME church held an annual reception to wrap up matters prior to the annual conference at Logansport beginning April 9. The conference will be asked to return Rev. M J Mayor. The meeting last night was well attended.
The Lake Shore guard gates at Main and Wilkinson streets crossings will be in operation Monday with John Bucher the Main street flagman serving as tower man. Easter Sunday and the end of Lent are noted with clear weather indications. Economy extra offers include long silk and Lisle gloves in various styles from 49 cents to 3.49 a pair.
In the second Ellen Miller versus Andrew Miller case over 3300 for care during illness, one juror wanted 5000 while others favored 1200 to 2500. after 16 hours deliberation the jury hung, court instructions given, disagreement deemed inevitable. Licenses issued for Albert Cutshaw and Mary Erwin. Wesley Risser and Agnes Canen. Hugh Searles and Lelia Reynolds pending Friday. Frank Howland trial set for April 5. Carroll to testify unlikely. Justice Whisler jailed James Edwards briefly for suspected break-in, later ordered out of town. Paul Raefsnyder held to circuit court on brass-stealing charge after larceny suspended sentence.
N Kidder representing American Asphaltum & Rubber in Chicago visits South Bend to sway owners on brick asphalt options. Brick paving costs about 3 dollars per running foot for a six inch gravel base on a 36 foot wide street. Sixth street shows mixed demand with brick on Lincoln to Clinton, asphalt on Lincoln to Purl, and brick from Purl to Main. Crescent and Pike streets favor brick, Fifth street prefers asphalt, and Pioneer filler may be used on any first class brick paving.
The St Mark’s M E Church at Main and Middle streets on the North Side will be formally dedicated Easter Sunday with morning afternoon and evening services and music. Rev W C Butts leads the congregation with dedicatory preaching by Rev Dr C O Merica at 11am and 3pm and Rev Dr H W Bennett at 7:30pm. Prof Brank Goshen College solos and First M E choir assist with organ by Mrs W C Butts and Mrs Frederick Howenstine. The new handsome structure replaces the old Fifth Avenue site, with the parsonage to the east.
Builders advocate Pioneer filling as elastic brick pavement between the bricks. It cuts noise compared to sand fill and sheet asphalt, with a claimed cost 20 cents per square yard higher than sand fill. South Bend authorities will bid on three streets to be brick paved with Pioneer filling.

Thomas Hayes and George Smith were indicted by the grand jury and brought into court where they told a direct story and were discharged. They said they sought a certain place, entered the wrong stairway, and took an umbrella for protection. A quarrel with a woman and intoxication led to trouble, with police corroborating their statements.

In a case name John H. Essig versus his step mother Jane Essig heirs under the father John L. Essig will have the document declared null. The agreement gives the second wife $1800 from a property deed earlier and allocates $7500 to seven children. The will had unequal shares.
Timely warning issued to persons who removed items from the Jefferson theatre ruins including door locks and radiator valves. Prosecution will be pursued by Sanders Hay Neidig Co. if the property is not returned.
Benjamin F. Bortner of Noble county sues the T and C Ry Co for 5000 damages. The case has moved to the Superior Court at Fort Wayne on a change of venue after a Garrett runaway injured him when his horse was frightened by a passing car.
Emil Schacht was arrested and charged with assaulting his wife with a tobacco cutter. At arraignment in police court he pleaded not guilty but asked that the matter be settled by pleading guilty to plain drunkenness.
Harry Hulsie living with wife and three month old baby in South Bend was arrested after allegedly threatening to kill his wife with an ax and chasing her into a neighbor's house with the weapon.
