Divorce Action in Elkhart Court Seeks Name Change

In Elkhart superior court, Bivth Sheets seeks a divorce from Charles Sheets of New York Central Analoge. They married March 18, 1916, separated March Su, 19820. she alleges cruel and inhuman treatment, forced employment, and assaults. She seeks to resume maiden name Ruth Caswater and notes $100 monthly income and at least $500 in property. No children. She describes repeated abuse including a December incident and attacks tied to his ring demand.

Warsaw Student Wins County Discussion Contest Title

Paul Reid of the Warsaw Wig school won the county contest of the State Discussion league held at Milford on the topic How Shall We Solve the Railroad Problem. Judges were Rev Detweiler of Nappanee Rev Harman of Goshen and Irvin Duker of Goshen High. Participating schools included Warsaw Milford Pierceton Leesburg Etna Green withdrew.

Banks Open at Eight in Goshen This Summer

Goshen banks opened at eight o clock this morning and will keep the earlier hour through the summer. They will close at three o clock as usual.

Renewed Push to Revive Elkhart County Fair

Efforts continue to revive the Elkhart County Fair and Agricultural association with plans for a fair next September. The existing association is in receivership while canvassers report strong stock subscriptions and belief in the value of the fairgrounds.

Tornado Strikes Near Mishawaka Causes Destruction

A tornado east of Mishawaka toppled a power house and damaged multiple farms. Jerome Gregor’s home suffered $1,000 in damage and numerous telegraph poles and wires were downed. A Robbins family farm house and a Morris farm outbuildings were destroyed, injuring Mrs. Gus Carlson.

Long Lost Uncle Sought in Cowan Estate Case

William Cowan's estate heirs seek to locate John Cowan believed to be his long lost uncle. Attorney Ralph D. Peck reports no solid lead after checking Cleveland records. If found, the uncle could claim the entire $3,000,000 estate. hearings set in Wheaton with no firm claim by relatives.

Public hearings set by Tudiana public service commission

Tudiana public service commission will hold hearings at city hall in Ligonier on Thursday April 8 starting at 9:00 a m. The petitions are from Ligonier Telephone Company seeking authority to raise rates and from Walter Kleckner et al seeking authority to compel New York Central Railway to maintain a station with telegraph express and freight service at Vistula Elkhart County.

Farmer Killed By B and O Train Near Tracy

Orth Hay a middle aged farmer living one mile west of Tracy in La Porte County was struck and killed by Baltimore and Ohio mail train No 16 as he walked on the tracks. The accident occurred about a half mile west of Tracy. Hay stepped from the north to the south track to dodge a freight train and did not hear the fast mail. He leaves a wife and several children.
