In a circuit court inquest, a jury found Elisabeth Simmons not insane and not in need of a guardian. The verdict ends a fight by heirs over guardianship and confirms her capacity to manage business affairs despite a disputed land deal.
Striking workers in South Bend stopped a plan to move Singer Company machinery from the East Side plant to West End buildings. About 300 to 400 men gathered within half an hour, guarding bridges and diverting wagons, while others watched. no injury reported.
Ernest Chokey born in Germany June 5, 1819, died Tuesday. Survived by wife five daughters and three sons. Annie Stouder, 12, daughter of Mr and Mrs Lewis Stouder near Foraker, died last night of appendicitis after a week illness with funeral set for Friday at 10 o’clock in the brick church.

Amos H. Yesterday a fox terrier owned by the Misses Fink died from strychnine. A dog was found dead on South Tenth street and fragments of meat with powdered glass were found on Fifth street. Investigators believe one person may be responsible for the recent dog poisonings and efforts to capture the culprit continue.
About 35 farmers from Concord and Baugo townships met at Four Corner schoolhouse Tuesday to organize the Concord Baugo Farmers Institute. They adopted a resolution opposing the National Threshers Protective Association and its push to raise threshing prices, pledging to oppose the machine's use. Elected officers were President Remus Burns, Secretary George Longeley, and Treasurer Levi Schillinger.
It is definite that a trustee in Elkhart township to succeed George Cobb must be elected this fall. Cobb was appointed by the county commissioners to fill John B. Walk's term until the next general election. Some Republicans argued Cobb should serve the full term, which ends in 1904, but law shows otherwise.

Wm. B. Lehman seeks 125 dollars in damages after a winter shipment of patent medicine to an Ohio town via the Lake Shore froze in a cold freight house and bottles broke. The firm delays settlement. Nearby, canine deaths due to poison thin dog populations as the assessor begins rounds.
