Former resident John J. Freeland dies in Washington
John J. Freeland former resident died suddenly last Thursday in Washington D C burial followed. He born near Benton Clinton township grew up on the Freeland homestead south of Millersburg later lived in Garrett Albion and this city where he worked in law insurance and collections and served on the school board. In 1885 he was appointed by President Cleveland to a pension department clerkship in Washington where he remained until death. He was survived by his second wife two sons Guy and Carl of New York City a daughter Fannie in Washington three brothers and two sisters including Charles E H Freeland and Mary J Freeland and others in Maywood New Jersey South Bend and on the old homestead.
