Henderson ex city judge pleaded guilty to embezzling ward funds in a noon court appearance. He faces one to five years in Michigan City prison, fined $1, disfranchised for one year, with ward funds reportedly unrecoverable from bondmen.
Last Saturday a Ligonier girl reportedly eloped with W J Reagan a traveling solicitor for Leslie's Weekly though no proof exists. President Gray of the seminary aided in locating her, while her mother travels in Florida for health.
A turkey Creek ditch project faces heavy local opposition over land damages and flooding fears in Elkhart and Kosciusko counties. Residents say assessments rise, public notice was limited, and remonstrances were filed late. Separately at St Joe, Ella Johnson sues Peter Johnson for divorce amid a lurid Big Four railroad romance case. Witnesses James McInness and Roy Jenkins testified as the court weighs the suit.

Report warns dog owners of recent poisonings in the city. Wm. Crowell’s dog fell ill last night after a strychnine dose, with several other canines harmed over the past two weeks.
The High School Athletic Association has received an invitation to attend the first Indiana interscholastic meet to be held at Bloomington on May 16. Prof. Randall said today that it had not yet been decided whether Goshen school would be represented there.
Albert Yates reports his daughter iMre Percival Turner is in Kansas City with severe nervous shock from the Rock Island wreck in Kansesa. Mrs Turner is en route to Wirconsin.
The Uniform Rank of the Knights of Pythias plans a meeting to discuss parade arrangements for Decoration Day. The gathering will likely be held in this city in the near future.
Creditors in the Sam Lewis failure have rejected a proposed 25 cent on the dollar settlement. Negotiations continue with some creditors in town awaiting developments. Glaspie pleaded guilty at LaPorte to kidnapping two wards, John Conboy and another minor, receiving an indeterminate sentence of 2 to 14 years and a $500 fine in Michigan City. Janitor Warden led spring-cleaning of the court park, and commissioners are urged to order tree topping and flower bed work as Fort Wayne and Goshen projects proceed.

A horse and buggy with harness valued at about 200 dollars were stolen from Rinehart Stateman's barn near Elkhart on Goshen road last night. Police issued notices across counties and hope to arrest soon. Mrs. Stateman disturbed by a night noise but the theft was discovered at morning chores. Cards sent nationwide and potential reward discussed. Otha P. Diltz, 37, died at his Elkhart home after long mental trouble. he reportedly starved to death amid unclear medical cause. Survived by wife Gertrude.
Hawk Christian Hawk, aged 69, died early today of heart failure at his home about 83 miles southeast of New Paris. He leaves a wife and a son, G. W. Hawk, about 20. Funeral arrangements will be announced tomorrow.
Washington dispatch notes Elmer Crockett proprietor of the South Bend Tribune is unlikely to win a post in the commerce and labor department. Representative Brick Jong pushed a belated Christmas gift nomination for his friend without Crockett’s knowledge, prompting press exposure and ending the plan. Crockett, a GOP political figure and newspaper head, would face a poor fate in Washington if moved to a government post.
A Washington dispatch notes Indiana applicants face slim odds as most openings come from transfers from other departments. Indiana may gain only two or three positions at most, despite large applicant interest. Tonight the Irwin presents David Harum in three acts starring W. H. Turner with a cast directed by Julius Cahn. The Broadway hit, adapted by R and M W Hitchcock, has toured extensively after two hundred New York performances and promises a crowded house despite minor liberties. Turner’s success is described as pronounced as the company heads to Montreal and Quebec next month with tickets at 1 50.
