Bastrop La March 16 No indictments for the year's reign of terror in Morehouse parish were retained by the parish grand jury in its final report to Judge Golem here late yesterday. Seven indictments in other minor cases were returned. The mystery of the Mer Rouge horrors the brutal torture and murder of Watt Daniel and Thomas F Richards by a masked band of terrorists may never be solved for those suspected of committing the outrage brought to trial, according to the jury report. The 12 men admitted their failure to pierce the veil of anonymity which has cloaked the perpetrators for more than six months. As to the deplorable crime of Aug 24 1922 when five men were kidnapped on the highway of Morehouse parish the jury's report said. We have carefully considered all the evidence brought before us as to the activities of masked and hooded men. The majority of this body is of the opinion that the evidence furnished was not sufficient to warrant the finding of true bills against any particular party. The jury examined in act 125 witnesses in connection with the mob terror and murder of Daniel and Richards, whose horribly mutilated bodies were found in Lake La Fourche more than five months after they are believed to have been systematically tortured and murdered. No Demar Judge Odom dismissed the jury without comment. Two previous grand juries failed to return true bills.
