Elkhart county officials weigh buying voting machines at 700 per unit after Representative Filmore displays a United States Standard model in the auditor's office. Proponents say costs could drop polling expense, while critics warn the total election cost may double and project staffing and polling-place reductions.
Mrs Manning wife of former Sheriff Manning is seriously ill at her brother H J Metzger’s home in Elkhart. Manning was summoned from Omaha where he had stayed for weeks as Mrs Manning grew worse after falling ill last Friday. She is reported better today.
Dr Frank Gunsaulus of Armour Institute Chicago known in this section for the St Joseph Valley Chautauqua fell ill at Cedar Rapids Iowa just before a lecture He was stricken with paralysis and canceled engagements returning to Chicago His right side is affected but recovery is hoped
In the superior court attorney Orrin H. Markel probated the will of Simeon B. Truex who died December 21 1908. The estate includes about 38000 in real estate in the south part of the city divided among the widow and seven children. Clyde Miller a son in law is named executor.

Charles Merritt left for Marion Ohio after being summoned by the sudden death of his father William Merritt. The passing occurred early Thursday morning and prompted a family notice.

York County obituaries report Matilda E Yeoman 56 wife of Alonzo Yeoman of Goshen township died after a three year illness liver trouble listed as cause. Surviving husband daughter Bertha Yeoman two sons Ira and Robert and sister Mrs Simon Ream Elkheart funeral 2 pm Sunday at home Rev Beach Oak Ridge cemetery. Martha J Tousley 86 former Elkhart resident died at Downers Grove Illinois where she lived 14 years. Survived by one daughter and three sons including Police Commissioner F B Tousley of Hik hart. INBODY one month old child of Milo Inbody and wife of Waterford Mills died at 1 am. Funeral at home tomorrow with interment in Inbody cemetery.
Supt. A E Weaver forwards the final monthly bulletin from State Superintendent Cotton as he retires next Monday. Dr Robert J Aley succeeds him and Cotton thanks educators and the press while commending the new officer as able and worthy to lead the office.
Army deserter and fugitive Frank Pavey was arrested in Mishawaka and taken to Fort Sheridan Illinois for detention pending court action. He will be placed in the army prison at Fort Sheridan until the case is heard.

A railcar loaded with ties derailed two miles from the depot on the G and M branch after a high wind moved it downhill. The car left the track near the derail east of the passenger station, damaging rails and ties but remaining undamaged overall. Section crews reset the car with a switch engine to restore service.

Miss Fanny Storer of East Purl street announced her engagement to John Leslie Montgomery of Topeka Kansas at a home gathering. Montgomery is director of Athletics at the Topeka YMCA and brother of Rev Montgomery of Warsaw. The couple plan to wed in July and will reside in Topeka.
Stuis said Lake Shore will receive a substantial portion of the 8,000,000 th equipment contract to be signed by the New York Central lines. The Lake Shore allotment includes 1,000 steel hopper cars 1,000 box cars twenty standard 70 foot coaches one dining car two steel buffet cars two cafe coaches three steel postal cars and twenty freight cars.
Reports state Rose of Wabash county has been arrested on an arson charge related to burning Adonijah near the farmer An vicinity. Authorities refuse to reveal proof but plan to present the case to the grand jury for indictment.
James Willoughby a 23 year old machinist from Park Head Glasgow Scotland walked from Goshen to Elkhart in search of work. He was found lying on the ground sick and improved after his companion cared for him. Authorities believe exhaustion exposure and inadequate food and rest caused the illness.
Farmers should not expect high returns for wool or cattle this year. Wool likely only a few cents higher than last year, not above 20 cents a pound, with land prices making 20 cent wool hard to justify. Mrs. Inez Alery McGuire, from Chicago, spoke at a Union missionary meeting then headed to Muncie for another talk tonight.
Charles W. Miller, recently named district attorney of Indiana, stated at the Auditorium Annex that under federal statutes there is no alternative but extradition of Delevant Smith and Charles Williams to the District of Columbia for the libel suit brought against them and Joseph Pulitzer. He said subpoenas will be served on Indianapolis defendants and if resistance occurs, further federal process will be used. He emphasized the federal law is specific and Indianapolis defendants are liable to extradition.
Marie Rentfrow filed for divorce in the superior court against Glen Rentfrow alleging failure to support and desertion. The complaint states he drove her from home and, though able bodied, has not provided for her. The prior week Glen Rentfrow attempted suicide in Elkhart with chloroform but was revived by a physician.
Two intoxicated women spent the night in Elkhart and were found unable to move on North Main street this morning a dray was summoned to transport one of them home.
