John P Altgeld Dies After Joliet Speech
Former Illinois governor John P Altgeld died in the Munroe hotel Joliet at 7 09 this morning after fainting at a pro Boer meeting in the Joliet theatre last night. He was unconscious since midnight and doctors planned an autopsy. Altgeld, a renowned jurist and national figure, had recently faced health issues. He once ran for Chicago mayor and was defeated by Carter Harrison.

Postmasters Organize In South Bend Meeting
Thirteenth district postmasters meeting in the Nippold building in South Bend elected officers to lead a new Brick appointee group. President Thompson Turner, secretary treasurer Frank Pickrell, and an executive committee including Horace Greely Miller, Chauncey Sherwin, C. H. Cuester, J. A. Yockey, and C. B. Bentley were chosen.
