Indianapolis reports confirm the United Mine Workers and rail workers formalized their alliance. Illinois miners consider a separate wage deal unless a four state conference is arranged by March 31. Officials await Illinois reply to a wage proposal affecting Illinois.
Frank Farrington head of the Illinois miners union and the state executive board discussed a proposed single state wage agreement with mine operators. The move defies a counter request by John L. Lewis of the United Mine Workers, sanctioned by its national executive board. Farrington arrived late last night. John H. Wilkinson of District 21 UMW declared Alexander Howat dead in a Muskogee letter to Oklahoma miners, amid Howat's speaking tour.
The Alabama delegation led by Representatives Oliver Bankhead and Alan urged quick acceptance of Henry Ford’s plan to buy or lease Muscle Shoals government properties. A gang estimated at 30 burglars overpowered three guards at the Outbridge Horsey Distillery warehouse near Burkittsville Maryland and fled with about 2100 gallons of whisky valued at 35000 dollars. They loaded barrels into three trucks and several cars, abandoning one truck after an earlier crash. A prior break in September netted 1100 cases valued at 45000 dollars with some arrests but no convictions. Investigators suspect participants came from Baltimore and carried the liquor to that city.
Regular Irish Republican Army troops occupy Williams Street barracks and five more in Limerick and take over the jail. British forces remain at the new barracks and ordnance building while police duties are handled by the republican army. Philadelphia March 8 Fifty dollar bills used by Walter A Unger in his flight from the city form the main clue in the search for the disappearance of securities worth about 190000 dollars from the Dr Thomas W Evans dental institute and museum fund at the University of Pennsylvania. Unger was assistant treasurer and had taken 12000 dollars of the institute’s funds the day he vanished.
Three suspects identified as Nina Burke 23 Danville Ti Helen Fisher 24 Kansas City Mo and Samuel King 33 Gary Ind were arrested at the Truex hotel Elkhart on charges of passing fraudulent checks at six stores. Victims say the trio bought goods then used checks for about 30 dollars in change. Goods and cash were partly recovered and the suspects remained jailed awaiting investigation. Loganport report says Bridle 45 died after drinking poisonous alcohol near Denham. Dr. Carneal of Winamac cites the cause as poisoning in a fatal incident.
