In a low turnout city primary, Theodore A. Zettler wins the GOP clerkship fight while Wesley Reams, the present incumbent, defeats Albert E. Dewey for the Democratic treasurer seat amid lack of mayoral contests.
Democratic slates reveal mayor, clerk, treasurer, and council members across at large and ward seats. Nominated officials include Josiah W. Replogle mayor and Charles F. Bickel councilman at large, with a slate of ward candidates led by Edward H. Nymeyer and others.
Voters in Go shen held the first city primaries with little opposition in mayoral races. Republicans attracted more voters than Democrats due to four candidates for clerk and two for treasurer. Final canvass by city officials showed Zettler 205 to 185 for clerk after elimination rounds. Democratic tickets listed mayor Replogle 281 and other offices with varying majorities.
In the council and treasurer races, Zettler carries the mayoral contest with a 20 vote majority. Charles H. Crowell gains 398 votes to 228 for James Johnston, a 100 vote edge. Councilmen-at-large show Yoder 869, Manrow 523, Castetter 73, Trimmer 67 with Castetter ahead by 6. Schrock 75, Beaver 40, Neville 79, Lambert 32, with Neville’s margin 47. Leedy 98, Hoovens 100, Davis 75. Hooven leads by 25.
In Elkhart city primaries Republicans nominated mayor W H Foster with 1017 votes while incumbent Mayor Smith had 329. Republican slate also named W C Meisner clerk Fred Lundquist treasurer D M Hoover judge. Democrat mayoral candidate A A Winey led with 297 votes against E L Burns at 186.
Polly Ganger 11, long resident, died after eight days of illness. Survived by son Andrew, daughter Mrs Jonas Miller, brother John Fox, sister Mrs Hannah Anglemeyer and eight grandchildren. Carrie Dryer 58 died at Elkhart home from Brights disease and complications. Buried in LaGrange. survived by husband, one son, two daughters.
Mrs Ella Rexinger 58 died in Chicago after an operation. Formerly of Elkhart she was wife of C F Rexinger a N C employee. Survived by husband one son two sisters and her mother Mrs Mary Chatterton Elkhart. An aunt of James Walley of the Elkhart Truth. Burial will be in Elkhart.
A concert at the Prairie Flower School House Friday evening features the College Glee Club under the Prairie Flower Farm Betterment Club. Admission is 10 cents with light refreshments provided by the club.
Tillbury of Cromwell was sentenced to two to fourteen years, but his suspended sentence was revoked for failing to comply with the court order. He now must serve time in the state reformatory.
H. B. Sheller of the Hotel Sheller in North Manchester is under arrest on a charge of operating a gambling joint.
Nelson Boudy of Elkhart was assessed $11 for a wife beating offense.

Complete unofficial returns from yesterday's primaries show Charles W. Jewett nominated by Republicans for mayor over S. Lou Shank by 906 votes. Jewett received 15 014 to Shank 14 108. Democrats nominated Dick Miller with no opposition.
Frank Smith a hospital patient in Evansville confessed to killing a white man years ago at Armstead Kentucky. He said he could not die with the crime on his conscience and told a nurse before dying. Police cannot locate Armstead.
Sayville dateline March 7 commanders of German submarines report that vessels totaling 204000 tons were destroyed in operations from March 1 to March 3. The claim is issued by the Overseas News Agency official German news bureau.

Subpoenas were issued for nine Goshen area witnesses in Helen Kreager of Cromwell’s $25,000 alienation suit against Dr A G Kreager set to begin Friday. In other news, prisoner Claude Arnold was found ill in his jail cell due to poisoning but is now reportedly improving.

Mrs Catherine Rice 85 formerly of Elkhart died in Toledo born February 10 1832 survives one daughter and four sons. Body to be interred at Elkhart.
A blaze caused twelve thousand dollars in damage to the Laporte Argus plant during a visit to the facility. The Laporte Herald reports the incident and notes the suit involved with the paper’s office.
