Huldah Culp, 24, daughter of Henry J. Culp, swallowed carbolic acid in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Pearce on West Madison Street. She remained unconscious, doctors feared she would not recover, and a sister Nora found a farewell letter explaining nothing. No cause is known.

The Lake Shore launched a 20 hour service between Chicago and New York with Twentieth Century trains. Eastbound No. 26 passed at 2 55 PM hauled by engine No. 610, four coaches, mirroring the Empire State Express. Westbound followed at 7 10 AM with many passengers and officials aboard.
