British pressure drives German forces to withdraw in Belgium as Allied attacks press from the south and east of Messines. Heavy German artillery falls back while Allied troops push forward in the disruption of German positions.
British forces press southeast of Messines and along the Ypres Comines canal gaining objectives last night. They report capturing one large gun seven machine guns and about 150 prisoners as German lines withdraw under heavy artillery fire.
Washington June 15 Complete returns on Liberty Loan bond sales are slow and total subscriptions will be known in several days I O Wood Liberty Loan Bond sales Chairman of Elkhiart county says a statement on county sales will await tomorrow They were up to expectations.
Admiral Benson after inspecting Great Lakes training station at Chicago reported to Secretary Daniels that conditions there were satisfactory. He noted prior complaints that men at the station were not cared for properly.

She is survived by her father and mother and four brothers and two sisters. Funeral Sunday at 10 am in Locke township Elkhart county with Rev H Anglemeyer officiating. Burial in Union township cemetery. The body of Mrs Mariel Smith, another victim, to be buried in Mount Greenwood Chicago. Mary Ellen Goss was the eldest of seven. her mother was at the bedside.
A sneaking thief entered Tony A Grove's billard hall on South Main last night after clerk Guy Rothrock closed. The cash drawer, about $12, was rifled when Rothrock opened this morning. No merchandise is believed missing. A Goshen resident who lingered near closing and helped lock the back door is suspected.
Anonymous letters claim vengeance for the death of Mar vin Kuhns an outlaw who terrorized Indiana and Ohio. Farmer Max Hoaglin of Hargiland Paulding county received the letters and recalls Kuhns fleeing Van Wert county on a stolen horse and buggy before a mortal wounding. Kuhns once operated in Noble county.
Rosalie W Kellogg, aged 72, longtime city resident, died at her 212 Queen Street home after a short illness. She had been in poor health for some time, with critical condition in the last two weeks. Survived by two sons, C. R. Miller of Stockholm and Clarence Miller in South America, and sister Mays Marion Butchelor of Crescent Street. Funeral arrangements to be announced later.
Mrs. Alexander Dotson of Elkhart investigated a basement noise and found a robber who had failed to gain first floor entry by removing a register. A section of furnace pipe lay on the cellar floor, indicating the attempted break in.
Miss Gladys Dawson and Miss Doro thy Drybread of the Indiana State board organize vocational classes in food conservation. Two sessions of 25 members each will be formed for girls aged 14 to 25. Sessions begin Monday June 25 at the High school with work extending to homes.
County auditor Rev. A. R. Bemenderfer returned from Ashland Ohio where he attended a meeting of the Ashland University board of trustees as a member.

Life long resident Mrs Josephine Stutsman aged 67 wife of Jacob Stutsman well known farmer west of Goshen died today at her home after a prolonged illness of complications of diseases. Survived by husband two daughters Mrs F Eh Campbell near Goshen and Mrs Rose Littlejohn Chico Cal four sons Alvin Fred Bert Jesse all of this city and vicinity one brother Harry T Minor Napimnee two sisters Mrs Henry Larber Malta Mont and Mrs Henry Eby Nappanee and 11 grandchildren Funeral arrangements to be announced later.
Elkhart county farmer and former county schools superintendent Piebe Swart is in a precarious state at his home three and a half miles southeast of New Paris after a stroke of paralysis last night. He fell from a chair striking his head and his recovery is unlikely per his son County Recorder Swart. Swart has suffered paralysis for over a year, with his condition repeatedly critical.
Rev. Peter Stuckman near Mil ford has been in a Chicago hospital for several weeks and is improving slowly with a return home expected soon. A. W. Miller former Noble County auditor is dying at his Ligonier home. His daughter Leila Smith of Indianapolis and son Solomon Miller of Syracuse are at his bedside.

Ignatius K. Werwinski of South Bend sues Antoinette Perlowski and her mother in Cook County DL courts to recover gifts and money advanced after the woman refused to wed following a contractual engagement. The legal document, sworn before a notary, is the chief exhibit.

James Nett Sr. 58 a Milford Junction resident died after sudden paralysis at his farm. Former Church of the Brethren minister and licensed veterinary, he never regained consciousness. Survived by his wife two sons one daughter seven brothers and two sisters.
Mable Fike, injured when a street car carrying her was struck by a Grand Trunk train at South Bend, received a $4,000 verdict against both companies jointly from a LaPorte jury. Each company blamed the other for sole responsibility during the hearing.

S. E. Weaver resigns as superintendent of public schools at Shipshewana after five years. He tendered his resignation to Trustee Levi S. Miller in LaGrange. The position was offered to Lagrange County Superintendent Smeltzly, who will retire in August, but Smeltzly declined. Weaver, Goshen College graduate, praised as an efficient school head in Lagrange County.
Co. L. Chaffee, 28, of near Wawaka, pleaded guilty in Albion for forgery and was sent to the Indiana reformatory for two to 14 years by Judge L. H. Wrigley. He forged a $53 note on his father F. E. M. Chaffee to obtain a motorcycle. Married with a child, he reportedly served one year at Jeffersonville for a similar offense. He is known locally.
The Leatherman family holds its fourth annual reunion on Thursday June 28 at the Leatherman grove with Harvey Leatherman as president and Jennie Leatherman as secretary. The Houserner family hosts its 12th annual reunion at Bremen fair grounds on Sunday June 1 with Amos Yoder as secretary.
