John W. Wolpert reports Henry Wilson alias Charles Friday Bright Aldrich and James Hill captured at Fon Du Lac Wisconsin and sent back to Peru. Wilson 50 is reputed to have stolen more horses than any local man, with prior jail time in Goshen and multiple thefts across Elkhart and other states. He will be tried in Peru and may end up in Michigan City penitentiary.

The Bucklea Valley line has driven property values in Middlebury. Three bidders sought Charles Swartz's house and land south of the track, driving the price to 950 dollars, A G Shettel securing it. Budd Mock, a Bucklen opera house stage hand in Elkhart, is arrested for stealing 6000 cigars from Horton & Co valued at 175 dollars wholesale. He sold boxes of 50 at 25 cents each, stored in the basement under the sidewalk, caught offering cigars for half a cent. Mock awaits arraignment and circuit court hold. Smallpox danger at Culver Military academy ends
J S Martin secretary of the board of health reports the Culver Summer school smallpox incident has been contained. The only employee case was isolated and the exposed moved three miles from the academy while guards and precautions remain. The affected buildings and belongings were destroyed by fire. Attempted murder near Coesse shocks rural Indiana scene
