Robert Hale, accused of assaulting his wife Mamie Cassell Hale and firing at the Cassell home in Waterford, is jailed after a chase with deputies and officers. Hale, claiming mixed ancestry and Canadian birth, faced bond settings while officials note prior criminal rumors and a past Huss murder link.
Winona Interurban Railway directors met in Warsaw to decide on operating Sunday cars on the Goshen Winona line. No decision made, postponed until August 16. Harry S Dickey supports Sunday service. others oppose. Public demand exists along the road.
Vernie Kuffman aged 11 daughter of Ora Kauff man living south of Middlebury was bitten on the cheek by a horse reaching over a fence while fetching water. She is in a serious condition. Nearby, Isaac lehman’s seven year old son fractured his left knee when jumping from a hay stack near the Eight Square schoolhouse.
Litthke Donald Hatfield suffered a severe attack of hemorrhage yesterday and is slightly improved today. J. L. Kerstetter is seriously ill at his home on North Third street after a long illness. Mrs Will Scott and Mrs Abe Myers, nearby residents, are ill. The Croop child remains seriously ill but shows improvement, and Mrs. Charles Crowell also shows signs of improvement today.
Oliver RE Pagin son of Dr L Pagin formerly of Goshen and a government special representative prosecutes Standard Oil Co in Cleveland Ohio for alleged trust law violations.
John Crumpacker and Marion Thune, both fifteen, were rescued from drowning in Flintlake after twice vanishing from view. Alexander Gasper of the Chicago life saving crew aided in the rescue.
M M Ulery returns home from Lake Wa wasee after resigning from managing the Lake Side Fishing club restaurant. The establishment will henceforth be run by John Ny meyer and Emmit Moriarity.
Mrs. J. W. Pottinger of LaPorte suffers serious injuries after a crazed brute attacks her. Her plucky resistance alone saved her from death, detailing a violent assault and a brave defense.
Word from Lake Wawasee today is that Mrs. F T Hendry, who tried death by own action at her cottage Sunday night, will recover. She is gradually improving.
Sears Gardner and his family have come home after spending a month visiting relatives in the eastern states.

Rev Abraham Troyer died this forenoon at his home near Pashan aged about 60, a prominent Am ish church minister in eastern county. George Smith, 68, died after a lingering illness at his West Goshen home. born in Miami County Ohio, he lived on the Elkhart Goshen road farm before moving to West Goshen. He leaves wife Catherine Stutsman, six children including David, Miss Mary, Mrs Emma Mc Mannus, Mrs Martha Nusbaum, Jacob, and four grandchildren. funeral Friday at 2:30 pm in the German Baptist church West Goshen conducted by Elder George Stafford.
The body found in the Morri son channel of the St. Joe river at St. Joseph is identified as Thornton, a young man who died by his own hand on July 5. Martin and Wm. Tornquist of Chicago declared the identification based on a small trinket in clothing left on the dock. The deceased’s father had died weeks earlier and authorities believe the youth was insane. The body was in water about 50 hours before discovery.
Robert E. Schrom of Chicago aged 17, son of Henry Schrom of Warsaw, drowned in Lake Michigan during his first rowing drill with six Illinois Naval Reserve Corps members. The boat overturned in a squall. seven aboard, two could swim, five, including Schrom, perished.
The Winona Interurban Halfway Co announces new departure times from Goshen at 5:40, 7:15, 8:45, 10:15, 11:45 a.m. and 1:16, 2:45, 4:15, 6:45, 7:15, 8:45, 10:40 p.m. The fastest Warsaw train is No. 23 at 11:05 p.m., arriving Goshen at 12:30 a.m.
This morning Jontiée and Al Jas were married by a justice of the peace at the county clerk’s office, in a simple ceremony attended by close family.
John Schaler, a Chicago youth at Lake Maxinkuckee, ran naked through a crowd of bystanders 200 feet to save a six year old swimmer who had fallen from a steamer. He dived repeatedly, retrieved the child, and swam 200 feet to shore with the body, reviving him after physicians began treating him. Culver Military Academy officials plan to pursue Carnegie Medal recognition.
Lake Wawasee resort keepers Eli Hinderer and John T. Howard filed affidavits. Deputies Mabie and Douglas secured machines at Dick Brunges place and at the Wawasee Inn run by Clinton G. Wiggins. Wiggins pleaded guilty and paid 38.15 after a 25 fine, allowed to keep machine money. Mabie must destroy the machine. Dick Brunges also pleaded guilty, paid 25 and costs. The Warsaw Union comments on a conspiracy to ruin northern Indiana summer resorts.

James E. Cripe of Indiana Harbor aged 20 with Cora B. Crothers of Millersburg aged 22. Albert S. Forgey of Elkhart aged 24 with Ada Cecelia Callin of Elkhart aged 21.

The Big Four Winona Flyer struck a Cadillac sedan carrying Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Hile of Elkhart as they tried to clear a Middlebury street crossing before an oncoming train. The car valued at $600, uninsured, was reduced to kindling. Both occupants were thrown clear. Mrs. Hile was initially thought seriously injured but later deemed not badly hurt.
Butler citizens discuss plans for a new modern hotel. The Logansport city hall suffered 1500 dollars in fire damage from spontaneous combustion on Sunday. Avilla blacksmith Andrew Eichman was thrown from his buggy when startled by an automobile, suffering three fractured ribs and additional injuries.

Johnny McMoon said no slot machines were at the Lake Side Fishing club headquarters when Lake Wawasee raid occurred. It is alleged the machines belonged to R. S. Moyer of St. Joseph Michigan and had been removed immediately after the Fourth.
Rufus Shank’s horse, injured yesterday morning by Austin Berkey’s runaway horse, died yesterday afternoon after Shank started home with the animal around four o clock. The death occurred after they had traveled as far as West Goshen.
About 25 people came up from Wi nona last night on the construction car and spent a short time in the city. They stopped on the corner of Main street and Lincoln avenue and sang several numbers. They had arranged seats around the car. It was a jolly but orderly crowd.
Mrs. David Garman sustained a nasty cut to her left hand when a glass fruit jar shattered yesterday. The incident was reported with brief details of the injury and cause.
The Whitehead family reunion committee met on Saturday and elected officers and set tentative plans for the next gathering. The event is scheduled for Sunday September 2 in D. J. It invites Elkhart leaders to tour its property but cannot raise 125000 dollars in stock subscriptions to fund the factory.
Republicans of Marshall and Fulton counties nominate S. J. Hayes of Bremen for prosecuting attorney by acclamation in the 41st district. Hayes previously won election two years ago by a 148 vote majority.

Two barns on James Pinkerton's farm two miles southeast of Milford burned last evening. The old barn sparked the fire and quickly spread to a nearby new barn. Mrs. Pinkerton had just left the barn with no sign of trouble. Fire was noticed fifteen minutes later. A lot of hay and a load of wheat burned. Loss about $1200.
E. J. Shrope of Mishawaka attempted death by his own action in Kendallville rather than be stricken with paralysis as initially reported. He was despondent and was found lying in a roadway.
The young son of F B Furman Big Four passenger agent at Milford was struck by a handcar this afternoon and thrown against the pavement. He sustained serious but not believed to be dangerous injuries. Engines on the Big Four and Central Indiana roads halted at 3 crossing in Anderson yesterday, with both engines overturning.
