A pail of chewing tobacco consigned from LaPorte to a Silver Lake party was stolen from a car loaded with merchandise in the Big Four yards. Railway detectives pursue the case. other items are said to be stolen and several persons under suspicion.
B H Billman of Clebourne Texas has been visiting his brother J C Billman and relatives in Ligonier and Goshen. He leaves Monday after a one week stay due to business. Knepper sells Main Street barber shop to C L Butts who plans to expand staff and run a first class shop. Prof Hering's speech from Notre Dame appears in the Democrat with July 4 remarks. Clarence L Arnold named ensign aboard the Nashville now in Tripoli Africa.
A telegram from Orlo Col. stated Frank Case had died, then corrected to Mr Case's uncle. In other items South Bend native William P Breen was elected vice president of the Indiana Bar Association in Indianapolis. Dr Stage, dentist, 1208 Main St.
A dispute over a monthly pension of 72 dollars for Gen E R Niles follows his asylum placement. His wife has collected the allowance since then while Niles, now in Adrian, Michigan, pleads to return and collect his share. Authorities consider placement at Longcliffe. Judge Farrall informed a Chicago Grand Army Post of the case.
J V Morrice a popular city singer may travel to Camden New Jersey to record graphaphone discs. Charles Kohler of the local firm pushing the agreement says a final close is near and Morrice records could sell well in Goshen and other known markets. Sullivan John J seven year old son of J J Sullivan died at his grandmother Mrs Mary Sullivan's home 222 North Fifth Street from diphtheria after catarrh with private burial set for 4 pm. he leaves his father three sisters and one brother.
Congress Brick faced criticism for canceling a Goshen Fourth speech promise as he returned home early. An Elks lodge charter nearly 100 strong will join a South Bend contingent of 150 and Oscar Vereire’s Third Regiment band for an interurban gathering with a 7 o clock departure.
