Order for ten entries received as Battalion of Artillery moves to the Mexican border today. Other units depart on a fixed schedule. Last soldiers expected to reach the scene of recent raids not later than Monday.
Edward M. Lewis of the U S A waits his appointment to lieutenant colonel to lead the Indiana brigade mobilized at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Gov. Ralston announced the War Department confirmation in Washington. Indiana troops are entraining for movement to the border.
Fort Benjamin Harrison is loading artillery and supplies for the Mexican border. Lt. Col. Toffey commands the force as battalion crews move to trains on the Big Four line. Departure plans place artillery today and infantry by Monday, with railway congestion and scattered rejections noted.
A group described as the Miller-Costello tribe arrives in town to aid Tony Mendies in securing early release from a two to twenty one year sentence for shooting Rosa Miller at Harrison Center two years ago.
Frank Kean of Cumberland Md fell from a New York Central train at Elkhart and suffered mangled feet. He was transported to General Hospital for treatment.

An Exchange dispatch from Rome reports 360 deaths in a Caltanissetta sulphur mine collapse after an earthquake. Shocks hit Ancona Rimini Belvedere Marettimo and other Adriatic towns with no fatalities reported there. Seismic activity has persisted in Italy with Stromboli volcano erupting.
The Navy reports that on July 1 in Santo Domingo a clash between 25 revolutionists and American marines left 27 Dominicans dead and five captured. One marine was killed and eight wounded. The engagement occurred before a tentative disarmament agreement was reached.
The bodies of Capt. Charles T. Boyd Lieut. Henry Adair and seven troopers of the 10th cavalry were received in El Paso. Only Private DeWitt Rucker among the troopers was identified. Eight bodies were exhumed from one trench and most were stripped of uniforms.
Major Gen. Leonard Wood in command of the department of the East directs the discharge from the national guard of all members who save dependents and seek release. Recruiting officers are advised to avoid accepting dependents into service.
The New York City health department says the infantile paralysis epidemic has caused 174 deaths in the past ten days. The report notes rising fatalities as officials monitor the situation.
The National Democratic Committee announced Robert W. Woolley, director of the mint, as publicity manager for the 1916 campaign. The move positions Woolley to handle press and public messaging for the party’s statewide and national efforts.
Two bodies recovered from the river at South Bend are believed to be Jas. Harding of Elkhart who vanished recently and Tom Conley who has been missing since last Easter. Elkhart police traveled to South Bend to identify the victims.
The two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Miller living five miles west of Goshen fell from a second story window yesterday. She suffered a dislocated right wrist a broken collar bone an injured spine and wind injuries but is expected to recover.
An auto driven by Able Tusing from eight miles south of Nappanee with his wife as passenger wrecked on a temporary bridge at the Harley Spiker farm near Nappanee.
The remains of Mrs Mary B Archer age 49 who died in Indianapolis were brought to Nappanee for burial. She was a sister of Mrs Henry Defrees of Nappanee.
Ford autos belonging to John Hall of Whitley County and John Decter of Servia were reported stolen. The incident highlights a theft targeting two local residents and underscores ongoing vehicle crime in the area.
The Goshen board awarded Cripe and Seaman the $71,772 contract to improve River Avenue road for nearly two miles using Veedersburg paving block on a monolithic concrete base. Albert Rieth bid $21,525 for Vee dersburg brick on earth base. The project exhausts Ek hart township road funds and paving Plymouth avenue from Main Street to Harrison township line was rejected. After completion, the Oak Ridge cemetery approach will be paved from First street to the cemetery driveway.
The second creditors meeting for Goshen resident Ed Wambaugh, head of Art Metalizing Co., results show none of the unsecured creditors will be paid. Debts total around 2000 dollars with a 600 dollar exemption granted. Mortgage of 850 dollars on Wambaugh's property by Jason Reusbger allowed. Referee Sol A. Wood presided at Fort Wayne Office. Also a Wakarusa bankruptcy hearing held. Rudy Detweiler and George Kilmer involved.
Wealthy Niles Michigan horseman Willard Ready was badly hurt at Parker race track on July 4 after his horse reared and fell. He had won tyre races before the accident and suffered a broken sex, three broken ribs and internal injuries. A planned match race between King Coachman and Baron Watts for Goshen fair grounds on July 11 has been abandoned.
Dick Whitmer adopted son of a Sturgis banker drove to Elkhart and hit the rear of a buggy owned by Jess Baldwin. He was arrested, paid for the repairs, and was released.
Delegates to the 26th annual Indiana Municipal League convention will be held here next Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday visits to Indianapolis and South Bend were canceled as plans were changed.
George White aged 37 a McCray factory employee in Kendallville was near death after falling while trying to board a moving G R I train in Kendallville authorities reported his condition in the incident record at Kendallville station.

Fire crews battle a blaze at Holcomb Drug Store and nearby buildings in Wolf Lake Noble County. The incident damages multiple structures as responders work to control the burr of flames. No injuries reported.
A large fire in Wolf Lake near Ligonier destroyed the Helmer Holcomb drugstore the Curt Thorp drugstore and multiple adjacent businesses on the south side of the street. Firemen from Albion and Kimmel battled the blaze until 2 50 this morning preventing further spread. No injuries reported.
A large barn on the Sol Loeser stock farm in Ligonier Indiana burned to the ground after eleven last night. Firemen from Ligonier started to respond to Wolf Lake but were diverted by automobiles and recalled to fight the blaze. Few horses may have escaped. three or four are believed to be alive.
Reports from Ligonier say four stallions burned to death this afternoon in a barn fire. Fire crews battled the blaze but none of the horses could be saved. Local authorities urged residents to remain cautious around livestock facilities.
A horse valued at over 300 dollars and owned by Roy Conrad a local teamster is in a serious condition after a stroke yesterday afternoon. Little hope is held out for recovery. This is the third horse Mr. Conrad has lost in two years.
The Pythian Sisters plan an installation of officers this evening in their hall with the Elkhart temple as guests. A large attendance is expected and refreshments will be served. All Knights and Sisters are urged to attend.
Mrs Henry A Barnhart of Rochester is much improved. Congressman Barnhart will not return to Washington until her recovery is assured.

Delinquent collection fees totaled 649.25. Apportionment to funds to follow. Court notes include partitions suits and tax ferret contract debates.
Dr. Miter, the county health officer, recorded 14 births and 52 deaths in June. He also noted 10 cases of measles, 3 of tuberculosis, 2 of typhoid fever, and 2 of scarlet fever.

David G. Lehman chairs the parks committee arranging with Frank Crowell to place flowers in four urns of the James Potezoes fountain in court park. The Polezoes gift cost about 1200 dollars and the Neptune center figure needs bronze restoration after weather stain drawing comment.

Indianapolis July 6 W A Shireman state fish and game commissioner now at Lake Wawasee asks the 1917 Indiana general assembly to require a license for fishing in all state waters. deputies say current laws enforce none in counties of residence or adjacent counties, hindering enforcement.
William Raftner aged 54 near Pierceton on the Warsaw road killed himself using a shotgun. He had been in sane since a sunstroke four years prior and was found by his sister Mrs Mary Freehly and brother James Raftner after she heard the shot. He was Catholic.
Elkhart county board of review ended its annual session with few complaints. Members included Auditor Bemenderfer Assessor Bartholomew Treasurer Winship Milton A. Cornell of Goshen Republican and Harden D. Markel Democrat. The session lasted 30 days and each member was paid three dollars per day.
Walter Nadolney T O Marjason and Ralph B Miller of Elkhart and Clayton Mimebaugh of Toledo are jailed after drunkenly hurling beer bottles from a car into the street during a disturbance.
Ladies of St. Peter's Catholic church in Fort Wayne raised 300 dollars at an indoor picnic. Rev. Charles H. Thiele, formerly of Goshen, is the parish priest.
