Dismissal of townships was granted at petitioners cost as the new law moves jurisdiction away from the commissioners to the circuit court. The remonstrators had filed a motion to dismiss the case.
County commissioners opened bids for porch at the county jail and hospital annex and for court house reconstruction. Jail porch bids exceed $600 appropriation. hospital bids exceed $5,000. council to meet in special session before awarding. Thirteen bids listed for the court house work from firms in Chicago Columbus and Goshen. awards not made before tomorrow.

The board declares licenses invalid, prompting potential lawsuits under 1901 and 1905 laws. Lightning struck Eugene Bell’s farm in Allen County causing extensive damage to the barn. An elm beam a foot square splintered across its length, a large oak plank with ladder rounds shredded, three rafters torn, a joist hurled through the roof and about a dozen holes without fire evidence. Eaves solder melted.

Henry Lewene a 16 year old boy who stabbed his brother Julius Lewene in South Bend Monday afternoon was arraigned in the police court and held to the circuit court on a 5000 dollar bond. The charge is murder in the first degree but youth suggests possible manslaughter with reform school sentence. He broke down when informed his brother was dead, lamenting his mother’s absence and asking why he acted.
R C Barney E P Rucker and Oliver Hazard Rucker manned by D J Ford in a late night lake rescue after their boat capsized. The swimmers clung to the upturned craft as alarms rose and shore access appeared, with Ford arriving to pull them to safety at the resort coast near Dr Frank Anselme’s home.
Charles F. Urquhart a tailoring shop operator was arrested on a complaint by lawyer Harlan A. Stauffer. He allegedly obtained 140 dollars by posing as owner of a sewing machine and 60 yards of ingrain carpet and giving a mortgage on the property. It was later revealed he did not own the property and the prosecution was dropped after a private compromise and dismissal of the suit.
J B Whitehead of Indianapolis head of the Indiana American Press Association reports the National Editorial Association will meet in Indiana in 1906 with a day at Winona Lake. About 1,000 leading newspaper men are expected, and the Northern Indiana Editorial Association meeting will also be held there with around 200 reporters and families.
