Fourth of July Uneventful in Goshen Despite Accidents
A modest Goshen Fourth of July celebration featured city band concerts and a high wire act by 17 year old Blondin. He was burned by an electric wire but performed well and planned a return for September’s Farmers and Merchants Fall Festival. Several other minor injuries occurred from fireworks, caps, and a revolver incident, with no fatalities reported.

George W. Robinson a Goshen native drowned in Baldwin Lake four miles north of Bristol while in a canoe during a Fourth of July outing with the Judson family. Body recovered Sunday morning after divers failed to locate it earlier. He was 52 and survived by four children and a sister.

Fire damages upstairs room at Goshen home
Firefighters from the tre department were called to the home of Mr and Mrs Wm Rhoads on East Goshen last Friday evening after an alarm from box 43. The fire started in an upstairs room and the woodwork and contents suffered heavy damage before crews gained control. A second alarm from box 22 near Lincoln avenue and Main street was likely a false alarm. Miss Anna Barron, formerly of Goshen, passed a creditable state Dental Board exam in Indianapolis and will return home to decide on a location to practice dentistry. George Ablefeld of Findlay Ohio, cousin of the late Nathan Ablefeld, recovered after years of illness leaving him unable to sit or walk, and physicians label the recovery as complete though unexplained.

Dr Dewey Chosen To Fill Elkhart Coroner Vacancy
The Elkhart county board of commissioners elected Dr Fred M. Dewey to fill the unexpired coroner term after the resignation of C M Eisenbeis who joined the state board of health. Dewey, a Republican, moved from Plymouth Michigan two years ago and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1892. The session also covered routine audits and upcoming equor license day. A separate case reports a Goshen man arrested for attempted rape of a 10 year old girl, with investigators pursuing a suspect bearing a badge while the victim stood with her family in fear.

Work on Electric Line Advances at Angola

Trains Run Two Sections For Boston Excursionists
East bound Lake Shore trains No 10 and 16 ran in two sections yesterday to carry a large crowd of Boston excursionists. All sections were late leaving. Tonight the city council meets in regular session, first in three weeks, with no major items on the agenda. Summer resorts plan to combine to reduce competition.

Goshen Home Grabs Twin Wins in Tight Marion Tilt
The Goshen home team defeated Marion 6 to 5 in the morning and 7 to 0 in the afternoon, bringing the attendance to about 1500. Alderman pitched well in the morning with 12 strikeouts. Boulton toed the slab in the afternoon and struck out 11 as Goshen rallied late to seal the double victory.

Devor Property Sold in Ohio Buyer Arranges Transfer
George W. Michael of Columbus Ohio arranged the transfer of the Devor property at Lincoln avenue and Seventh street to Ohio parties. A deed shows Allen P. Mitchell sold the property for 16000 dollars, with 520 acres in Ohio and 15000 dollars in cash to Michael. The sale includes the house and the large flat building. Michael has owned the property through his brother's name during litigation and plans to occupy it as before.

Clerk attacked by highwaymen in St Joseph
Eugene Bird, a store clerk in South Bend, was attacked by highwaymen while asleep in Lake Front Park St Joseph Michigan and robbed. He suffered scalp and internal injuries that may prove fatal. One hour later William Subke of Chicago was arrested and jailed in St Joseph County for the alleged crime.

Monoquet Wins Wawasee Regatta On Fourteen Mile Course
Col Eli Lily's Monoquet covered the seven mile course twice in 65 minutes to win the cup at Wawasee with about 700 observers. The Swan Hilda placed second and Warwick third, Annette fourth. A spectator was seriously burned by a cannon signal misfire, and a large cake walk drew multiple prize winners. Local Goshen residents attended the Fourth of July event and festivities.

Petly aged about 24 died at his home one mile east of Milford Sunday about 5 AM after a weeklong illness. Typhoid fever followed by hemorrhage in hot weather after drinking well water tenants. Survived by wife six brothers and one sister. Funeral at home Sunday 1 PM with interment in Whitehead cemetery near New Paris. Married Miss Jennie Peters last February.
