Mortimer Nye former lieutenant governor died at 63 from paralysis after a stroke in LaPorte County. The LaPorte native had served as mayor of LaPorte and was a key Democratic figure allied with M M Galentine and Senator Vail. He collapsed after a Fourth of July speech at Union Mills and never recovered.
