The Democratic convention names William Jennings Bryan of Nebraska and Adlai E Stevenson of Illinois as presidential and vice presidential nominees. Knisely and Carpenter In Rent Dispute Before Justice Young

In Justice Young's court this morning David Knisely vs Thos Carpenter ended with a stipulation requiring Carpenter to pay back rent at month end and Knisely covering all costs. Also noted, a silk robbery gang remains at large, with a recent holdup in Holland, Michigan netting a large consignment of silks.

Auburn Orders Arrests for Begging and Vagrancy

City council declares able bodied tramps must be arrested for vagrancy and, upon conviction, fined and sent to work on the streets under guard with shackles. The dead Earl Grose was laid to rest at Oak Ridge cemetery after arrival by the Big Four train. Miss Kate Daub’s condition shows slight improvement.

Will of Francis Smith of La Grange county offered for probate with detailed bequests to Eliza beth Setford Mary Issa and others and a five share residue. Board of review adjourns tomorrow after adding about 1 407 to the duplicate totaling near 2 100 000. Himebaugh crossing matter set for tomorrow before county commissioners. Whitfield Burglar Escapes As Guards Fight Back

Fred Whitfield, an Indian burglar, escaped from jail after seizing a revolver from a colored guard and forcing the guard to open doors. Matron Miss Mizzie Whiteman was knocked down in the struggle. Enthusiastic Crowd Greets LaPorte Team at Grounds

A crowd of nearly one hundred enthusiasts accompanied the LaPorte ball team on the 148 Lake Shore train to the grounds. Spectators loudly greeted the players who were described as sturdy and exceptionally strong as wild enthusiasm filled the grand stand by 2:30. College students were among the attendees amid the lively reception. The lineups for the two teams followed.

Geo Sheffer filed affidavit with Justice Young charging his brother Warren with assault and battery after a fight. Warren was arrested and brought to court. George did not appear. Warren jailed for about 20 dollars in fines and costs from an old East Goshen charge until payment or arrangements are made.

Earl Bunton Dies After Telegraph Insulator Accident

Earl Bunton aged 13 of Rolling Prairie road near Byron LaPorte county died yesterday morning from injuries suffered about three weeks earlier when he stepped on a broken telegraph insulator. An artery was cut and profuse bleeding led to a weakened condition from which he failed to rally.

Lipshitz Acquitted in Nuisance Case in Millersburg Court

Casper Lipshitz of Elkhart was acquitted on a nuisance charge after a venue change to Clinton township. The case centered on land likely owned by Lipshitz’s son in law William Weiner, with health officials planning further action over decaying carcasses still on the lot. Witnesses promised by the prosecution failed to appear.
