The Middlebury Independent urges support for Mayor Deah I I as the Democratic nominee for Congress in the Thirteenth district. It argues the district would be better represented by Deab. and that the democracy could not nominate a stronger candidate.
Milford correspondent reports Miles and Horton lost their stallion Robert Watt valued at 1000 dollars and notes ten horses have died in thirteen months. Poison is suspected and a mystery surrounds the deaths with speculation about pasture being to blame.
The Osborn Lumber company led by Ira Osborn and his son Burt plans a main office in Goenh. They own a mill eight miles north in the Gardner settlement with a large timber yard and have taken possession of a mill in St Joseph county to operate.
Cephas Miller nearly severed a finger when a razor slipped while shaving. Miller concludes it is unsafe to handle a razor without due care.
Elkhart judge reduces bond of Charles H. Evans ton known as Russell from 1000 to 500 dollars citing lack of means and consumption. He may be freed in a day or two. Also a new trial granted in the state case against James Sailor for embezzlement after a prior acquittal on larceny.

The census director asks agriculturists to use time until next June to ready accurate figures on acreage crop values farm products costs and labor for 13899. Enumerators are required by law to collect the data, promising a complete and accurate census result.
Will N Freyberger today received the Orient, a Manila newspaper dated December 5 1899. The five column ten page English issue contains advertising and news. the leader is President McKinley’s message to Congress. The paper appears to be an administration organ with many hotel ads aimed at soldiers.

Edwin McDonald a Grand Trunk employee at South Bend died after a fall from a hand car leaving a wife and one child. Mrs Bea King widow of a St Joseph Mich poet was burned out in Chicago. Uriah Coker of St Joseph County was indicted for perjury in the Calloway case and jailed in La Porte. six counts in all. Officials pursued him amid rumored sensational disclosures likely from the trial.
A Chicago Journal report details a quarreling exchange between Rep. Joel Heatwole of Minnesota and Rep. Albert Hopkins of Illinois as they debated outsourcing government printing. Heatwole seeks a hearing and accuses Hopkins of breaches, while Merriam pushes two years of printing ahead, stressing capacity limits.
