Mrs Ella Keith and her husband were jailed in Goshen on charges of forgery after presenting several checks from Auburn and Goshen banks. Officers traced the couple to a boarding house and a tense confrontation followed before they were taken to jail. Local and regional inquiries continue to identify the pair with other counterfeit cases.
Deputy County Clerk George Bleming received a letter from Emma Lane of Kalamazoo Michigan asking if Solon Lane, her husband, ever married in the county. Records show Solane Lane and Sarah Shoup wed in 1833 by Elder Daniel Wysong. The note suggests possible bigamy or divorce and hints at family trouble ahead.
Mr and Mrs George F Alderman hosted an informal reception at Hotel Hascall for Bishop John Hazen White of the Michigan City Diocese. About two hundred guests attended as music by an orchestra of M Hascall Platte Starr A C Hassanger and Jacob Wayer accompanied refreshments.
A Warsaw liveryman cannot identify a Fort Wayne transfer as a Silver Lake bank robbery suspect. Nightwatchman Burt of Silver Lake says the prisoner matches the shooter. Two Hinkson brothers were arrested in Chicago with 1500 in cash after raids. bankers from Silver Lake travel to Chicago to view them. Executive committee named with Goshen Elkhart Bristol Nappanee and Millerburg officials. Bekey Leaming Neidig serve as ex officio.
The New Paris burglar known as More alias Anderson or Ulrich pleaded guilty to breaking into the Wabash depot last Friday night. Judge Wilson sentenced him to nine months in the Elkhart stone yard, fined him five dollars, and disfranchised him for two years. Buckmaster identified the suspect as the man who tried to steal a satchel and other items from the depot. More admitted stealing a grip sack and clothing from the Big Four station. he refused to name his residence. The court noted such prisoners often gain limited time, but the sentence stands. Two sheep theft case and other proceedings followed in court today.
The First Baptist church reports strong turnout at recent gatherings. Tonight Pastor Pearce will discuss Altogether Christian and the almost Christian, with services starting at 7:30 and lasting one hour to ensure punctual closings.
Walter Van Diepenbos, a young flotlander bound for New York to sail to Europe, was stopped for $2.79 delinquent taxes. He heard of the arrest and did not depart, with officers still at large. It seems odd that a traveler delays for such a small amount before the Paris exposition.
Chas Krutz has leased the basement of the Kidder building on East Lincoln Avenue for an office and stock room. His bill posting business has grown, and he now controls every billboard in the city plus a line along the interurban between Goshen and Elkhart.
The Fakers' Institute adjourned after an active afternoon featuring Mr. McMahan discussing clover and corn rotation for forage. He described mulching practices, sowing rates, and drainage to secure clover stands, with notes on stover feeding and fodder costs. An evening program included music by the Imperial orchestra and talks by Mrs. Erwin, Miss Crowell, and speakers on home life and life’s unknown quantities.
J. Snyder filed an affidavit today in Justice Young's Court charging Max D Ratner with conducting a public nuisance at Dunlisps. Ratner has not yet been arrested. Money to Loan-Roose and Lint.
In Elkhart, Arthur Klein suffered serious burns during a gasoline lamp explosion while removing the flaming device from his grocery store. The incident caused minor structural damage to the building. Parallel news note: a Goshen-bound interurban car struck John Parchell of Elkhart near Osceola, leaving him unconscious and likely fatally injured. Police, doctors from South Bend, and local physicians treated him.
Augustus G. Walker aged about 65 died at his home one and one half miles northeast of Middlebury last evening. A prominent county resident he leaves a wife and one son Frank Walker and a brother J W Walker of Goshen. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
The Goshen Telephone company stockholders held their annual meeting at the Roose & Lint office. Barber and Brailey of Toledo attended and the officers reported the business to be flourishing. No officers were elected as the current staff will serve until the next meeting.
Surveyors and inspectors are at Bristol to assess Cevelana cement capitalists power property, with an immediate purchase planned if Boyer’s facility reaches 3000 horsepower. Bristol residents feel hopeful as this potential sale unfolds.

Series of property deeds shows Julia K Wysong transferring land to Alice Wysong in Elkhart for 2400 dollars while Jacob M Cover sells to Noah B Bender in Clinton for 1300 dollars. Bender then transfers to Adam Kiefer et al in Clinton for 1300. Further transfers include Isaac Baker trustee receiving Elkhart land from Catherine Miller for 5 dollars and Baker back to Daniel J Miller for 5. A Middlebury Elkhart sequence records Sarah A Yoder selling to Catherine Troyer for 635 dollars. Benton records Frank J Stage selling land to Albert J Banta for 2337.50 and Wakarusa notes Anthony Myers selling a lot to John B Myers for 50 dollars.
Milford Hatch of W. W. Hatch & Sons traveled to Chicago for price quotes on electrical gear and will bid in Frankfort Indiana to install a municipal electric light plant costing about $60,000 with the city to supply both arc and incandescent light. John Satherlin is ill with the grip and confined to his home.
