Former Nappanee Minister Sentenced for Mail Fraud
Judge Swann of the United States district court in Detroit sentenced the Rev. G. F. B. Howard to two and a half years in the Detroit House of Correction after he pleaded guilty to using the mails to obtain money under false pretences. Howard, once a prominent figure in Nappanee and a former prohibition candidate for Congress, was arrested in Columbus, Ohio, after leaving the Ohio penitentiary where he had served nine years. He delivered a moving plea for mercy, but the sentence was upheld.
