Mary Emerson returned to Goshen and starred in Will O' the Wisp at the Jefferson. The unknown playwriter is said to be a western newspaper man and the four act show drew strong applause despite a small audience.

Henry Overlease, Elkhart city fireman, was arrested on a hold up charge after confession by Ed Shannon. The pair allegedly stopped brakeman Herbert Casey August 1 while returning from Toledo. Casey’s watch was pawned in Chicago and later recovered there. Arraignment set before City Judge Clyde Raymer.
Anton Cramer of South Bend's Singer Manufacturing machinery department died instantly in an elevator accident at the plant. He planned to visit his brother on the fourth floor, activated the lift, then tried to lower it as it began to rise, his head crushed between platform and gate. He was 21, survived by a wife and a 10 day old baby.
At an administrator's sale in Syracuse yesterday M M Ulery and Johnny McMahon bid highest for the 35 acre farm hotel restaurant and saloon estate of the late Robert Ebert. The deed will be filed today. Consideration set at $5. The rapid rise in Lake Wawasee real estate is noted. The buyers may lease the property.
Leon Foy of Elkhart, former center fielder for the South Bend team last summer, will wear a Canton uniform after a trade for Johnson who will take over at third base. Foy is highly popular in the region and his father is a Lake Shore conductor.

William Howard Sanders of Elkhart, an ex Lake Shore engineer, was arrested after lighting a match on South Main Street near Miller and Broderick blocks. A cloth sack in a broken window caught fire minutes later, but police could not prove arson. Sanders pleaded guilty to intoxication and paid a $5 fine plus costs. he had $24 in cash and a bank balance over $500. He previously faced a shooting incident near James Morris’ saloon and served time in county jail.

The International Text Book Co. sues Henry Doering of Elkhart for $40, claiming nonpayment of a correspondence instruction course under contract. The case moved from Justice Oberholtzer in Concord township to Justice Whisler in Elkhart township.

A gold watch owned by John F. Pound, a former Clinton township teacher who ran a general store in Oswego, was found on a 14 year old boy named William McCreary who says he picked it up on the streets of Goshen.

Harrison Vanness of Kosciusko county was killed Monday afternoon while seeking shelter from a storm. He and a companion hid in a barn when a falling rafter struck him as they headed to the house. The incident occurred about one mile north of Wooster and three miles west of Pierceton.
