The League of Nations plans its first council meeting in Paris on January 16 with Leon Bourgeois to preside. Ambassador Wallace Cables informs President Wilson of the arrangements as the council convenes in the morning.

Jack Wright of Buchanan Michigan flew 215 miles from Cleveland to Bellefonte with a mail load in 83 minutes averaging 150 miles per hour. Knight is the son of Dr. and Mrs M M Knight of Buchanan.
Safety deposit boxes stolen from the Gandy bank in Churubusco were recovered near Toledo. Seven highwaymen tied to the bank robbery, valued at $15,000 in securities, remain at large.
Federal Judge Knox adjourned habeas corpus hearings for Gregory Weinstein chief of staff of Ludwig Martens and seven other radicals awaiting deportation at Ellis Island to next Tuesday.
Charles Sixbey aged 65 was found dead at his son Frank Sixbey's farm near Shipshewana after being alone at the farm. He was thought to have died of a heart attack while playing solitaire as he held playing cards. The Lagrange county coroner attributed death to apoplexy. Funeral services were held Friday and the body was taken to White Pigeon Michigan for burial.
Wallace Nellist found guilty of shooting Nelson Inebuit with a verdict returned shortly before two this afternoon. Nellist was sentenced to 2 to 14 years in Jeffersonville reformatory. Garland Van Horn testified that Nellist fired the second shot from the Waterford interurban shanty. The defense offered no witnesses. Nellist had prior records including teenage thefts and a 1916 bicycle theft.
Today marks the close of the rabbit season.
Newton A. Calbeck of Nappanee to lease and operate a seven year term in the Spohn building at Lincoln avenue and Fifth street, converting it into a movie theatre with seating for 600 to 700, a $40,000 investment, and a planned opening around April 15. Architect Charles R. Weatherhauf of Fort Wayne designed the remodel. Isaac W. Miller is the general contractor.
An all day sewing event for the Associated Charities will be held at the First Reformed church on Tuesday January 15. Those who attended meetings at the Presbyterian and Methodist churches are urged to join. Dinner will be served at the church by local women from the surrounding country.
At a special meeting the Elkhart board of education approved across the 132 teachers in Elkhart city schools for personal record based raises from 20 to 25 percent. Teachers earning $80 were raised to $100.
Milo March has been admitted to the Ikbart County Bar following his graduation from the law departments of Oxford and Princeton. He served during World War I and was connected with the American embassy in Copenhagen.
Oscar Ilinsen sold the Lyric theatre on South Main Street to Angelo Pechorelli of Elkhart for 3000. The theatre will reopen under Pechorelli on Sunday February 1 with Hansen transferred to operate the Jefferson. An extra exit is being added to the south wall.

Finley P Mont of Laporte president of the Advance Rumely company spoke there predicting high prices would persist through 1920.
Davis and Schaefer file for divorce from Lawrence Schael claiming cruel and inhuman treatment, threats, and physical strikes. Alimony asked at 30 per month and plaintiff seeks to resume former name Toeal Miller. Married December 18 1915, separated 1920. Child support payments diverted by husband.
Lloyd Prevost was to be arraigned in police court Mt. Clemens Michigan on a charge of murdering his former friend J Stanley Brown. Brown's body was found in his auto on a country road near Mt. Clemens on December 24. If held for trial a delay of several weeks is likely as prosecutors and defense lawyers plan to request more time for investigations.
William Preston McHenry, a prominent northern Indiana musician, has been chosen to direct the St James Episcopal church choir in South Bend. He will relocate from Elkhart to assume the post.
Mrs Carrie Stumets buys a Buick sedan while George Richardson takes a Buick coupe in separate transactions.
The Versailles treaty became effective at 4 16 pm today after the exchange of ratifications in the Clock Hall of the French foreign ministry. Premier Clemenceau announced the pact is in full effect. German representatives signed the Nov 1 protocol on reparations for Scapa Flow. The absence of American delegates was noted.
