The Goshen grand jury returned four indictments including Ora Strine in the Elkhart death case. Anthony Deahi and Arthur Darling will defend Strine. Also reported are marriage licenses issued to Aims Martin Maude Stanton Henry Freese Carrie Rapp and two divorce actions Harmon Zigler vs Pearl Miller and Levi J Allen vs Edith Allen. Depot robbery at Benton yields sugar cheese tobacco and cigars. investigations continue.
The annual congregational meeting of the First English Lutheran church will be held this evening at 7 30 when deacons and trustees will be Money to loan. Lar Brows.
William H. O'Brien chosen at Indianapolis as state Democratic chairman after service as mayor of Lawrenceburg and Dearborn county party leader. The 45 year old banker said he would organize the party effectively and harmonize all elements while not yet outlining policy. Lincoln Dixon serves as fourth district committeeman. successor secretary to be decided.
The Interurban Coal Dealers Association met in the council chamber for their monthly session and banquet. An oyster supper followed at F. E. Matzdorf parlors on South Main street with 28 covers. The group set the next meeting for January 31 in South Bend.
Within three or four weeks the Goshen high school baseball team will be reorganized with R. B. Kelly in charge as captain. The squad shows unusual early interest and is expected to field a capable team that can compete strongly this season.

The Millionaire Chapin offers a $25,000 indemnifying bond to Berrien Springs to secure dam construction once legal hurdles are cleared. The old courthouse clock in South Bend will continue to run, delighting residents.
A crowded county commissioners session heard Grass and McLaughlin Nappanee applicants and Ed Cuppy Elkhart challenge liquor licenses. Mayor Deahl contends Grass owner status while Burris clashes with the board on proof. The board votes to deny Grass license as McLaughlin and Cuppy follow. Also discussed was increasing Elk Hart township voting precincts from 11 to 14, with changes to appoint new precinct committeemen.

Democrats discuss harmonizing differences and elect John G McNutt as chairman at Indianapolis meeting with James C Fletcher as secretary. Nominations favor W H OBrien over Senator Fleming in a nine to three voice ballot.
Meyer Baum of Ligonier died last evening at 5 o clock aged 85 after a prolonged illness from appendicitis. He had undergone an operation last Sunday. He was brother to the noted musician Jacob Baum.
Samuel Dumas found the Hinderer ice house in the city's south on fire late yesterday afternoon. The flames were extinguished with several pails of water. Officials suspect a spark from a passing traction engine landed in rubbish near the building.
The St. Joe County Democratic Party held a Jackson Day smoker last night with a large turnout. Several Goshen democrats attended the event.
William Acton, a well known motor man on the street railway line at Benton Harbor, died suddenly at Kendallville where he had gone after a relative's death. Mrs. Lucy Carpenter, an aged Kendallville woman, was found dead in her yard yesterday afternoon from heart disease.

General Williams recalls a 1860 barbecue allegedly linked to Cassius M. Clay, while Bro. Prickett disputes its occurrence. The Fremont barbecue of October 1856 near the future high school site is noted, with Clay’s 1860 Lincoln support heard at Hascall's corner. The Democrat article parodies the event with James T. Maxfield’s satire and a cane gift to the editor.

Two burly strangers demanded money from William Cressler and Julius Maynald on South Third street last night. Maynald was beaten and Cressler escaped, prompting officers to search for the attackers and monitor train departures. An earlier failed attempt targeted J G Cline’s North Second street home as investigators link workmen at Maynald’s factory to further harassment.
The Barron and Chaplin nuptials occurred at Wilson Avenue with a reception and luncheon for seventy guests. The couple, moving to Warsaw, returned to Goshen, while other social events included Pedro games, a magic lantern show, and church notices. Local ads announce fresh gilt at Hebert's coal yard, 824 North Main Street.
