Theodore Roosevelt's family gathered at Sagamore Hill for simple at home, church, and graveside services. Mrs Roosevelt did not attend church or the cemetery procession. Two sons in overseas service were absent as the body was laid to rest in the village cemetery in Oyster Bay.

A large Indian land farm of about 200000 acres in Montana and Wyoming on Crow and Fort Peck reservations will be harvested next fall. About 35000 irrigated acres are plowed with the rest to be cultivated this summer. A corporation with $2,000,000 in capital formed last spring to develop the land, backed by banker partners and officials.

Over fifty Indiana high schools have organized to enroll boys for work in the next harvest to replace wartime manpower and help feed Europe while aiming to reduce living costs by boosting food production.

Dr. Winegardner's auto driven by Frank Kauffman struck a fence post on Fifth near Madison, causing three wheels to wreck. Margaret, daughter of Mrs. Jesse Rumel, escaped injury with only a headache after the bumper touched her head. the driver has had a recent hand injury preventing driving.

In a Sloscow dispatch, Nickolai Lenine the Bolshevik premier of Russia is said to have arrested Trotzky at the orders of Lou Trotsky minister of war and self proclaimed dictator. The move stems from a dispute over reforms and coalition with moderates while Trotzky favors continued red terror.
Dora M. Haynes of Elkhart sues Worthie W. Haynes a real estate dealer in Elkhart circuit court for divorce citing cruel treatment since their 1911 marriage. She seeks custody of two children aged six and four and $30 per month support.
Interstate Commerce Commissioner Edgar F. Chark told the Senate Interstate Commerce Committee that Congress, not the president, should decide whether the railroads return to private management. He spoke during the hearing on railroad legislation in Washington.
Indiana plans the first official welcome for 139th and 7th field artillery troops returning from overseas. About 2800 troops will march in review from Fort Benjamin Harrison to a theater, with Gov. Goodrich and lawmakers present. Garbed in overseas uniforms, they arrive around 1 50 p.m. and participate in a two hour entertainment segment by city theater talent.
About 270 persons attended the opening night for Goshen City Schools night classes held in the Goshen High School building. Ten week sessions run each Tuesday and Thursday with enrollment costing a $1 fee refunded if the student attends at least four fifths of the term. Subjects offered include Typewriting Stenography Bookkeeping French Cooking Sewing Mechanical drawing Wireless Commercial arithmetic Penmanship and Business English with interest in adding Art Chemistry and Music if enough applicants enroll.
Nine persons are dead and about a score of others injured after a spectacular fire and explosion wrecked a Pennsylvania avenue exchange building late yesterday. Damage is estimated at 1,000,000.
Ialbert E Penny two year old son of Clifford Penny of Three Rivers Michigan formerly Elkhart died in Three Rivers of pneumonia. Surviving are the parents and two sisters. The family moved from Elkhart to Three Rivers about a year ago.
Joe Krueger a 35 year old Laporte laborer is under arrest here as a suspect in the Carl H Cook murder case.
Newport News dispatch says the battleships Georgia and Kansas arrived today carrying 2,650 U.S. troops home from France. The two ships returned to port amid ceremony and expected leave for depots and further demobilization.
Mrs. Henriette Nelson aged 45 and her daughter Mrs. Grover Marber 22 of Indianapolis are seriously hurt after a collision at Twin Branch near Mishawaka. An occupant, Grover Marter, escaped with minor injuries. They were en route to Mrs. Nelson's sister in South Bend for a week long vacation. They were taken to Mishawaka for treatment. The other car was driven by Boyd B Seedier near Goshen with all occupants uninjured.
The Democrat publishes the opening installment of a temperance serial titled Little Sir Galahad by Phoebe Gray. The first part appeared last Saturday and the tale aims to be suitable for all readers.
Washington reports that complete casualty lists have been sent to Washington. The Adjutant General’s office has added about 1000 clerks to process and release the lists as quickly as possible.
The Kelly Motor Co. secures six Ford cars from Chicago as the first Goshen consignment in a long time due to Ford factory output lag. Heaters and other buyers had faced shortages.
Samuel Barden 80 died at his home in Ligo nier after two years of paralysis. Cora Chandler a trained nurse cared for him during that time and he left her welfare in his will. He carried $2,400 life insurance. His nearest surviving relative is his brother Charles M Braden of Louisiana.
