County Agent Metzger and J S Borderner spoke during the annual farmers test at the First Reformed Church this afternoon. Officers were elected as part of the morning session, and there was strong interest in the addresses delivered by the speakers.
1917 Institute officers announced with President Guy M Rieth of Concord Township, Vice President John Paul Michael of Concord Township who is also County Infirmary Superintendent, and Secretary-Treasurer Ira Myers of Clinton Township.
The 26th annual institute of Pikhart country farmers in Goshen concluded at the First Reform Church this afternoon after sessions that drew large crowds. Purdue expert Dr Wigin spoke on hog cholera while County Agent Metzger urged soil fertility, crop rotation, leguminous crops, and on-farm fertilizer mixing as key to higher yields.
The article notes that good crop growth hinges on nutrition with a 75 bushel per acre corn yield. Mrs. GC Everding of North Main street Goshen died in Homeman hospital Chicago after several weeks there for paralysis following a stroke. Age about 70. Survived by husband Mr. Everding. Body to arrive in Goshen tomorrow at 1 42 via the N Y and burial at Oak Ridge cemetery with private services.
Nappanee High School defeated Goshen by 21 to 20 in a fast game at the local gym. Goshen led 16 to 6 at halftime but could not sustain the pace. Charles Semler coached Mishawaka supplied referee duties and satisfaction.
A balance of 18.87 held by the Goshen Ladies Cemetery association was donated to Goshen Hospital. Mrs Lillian Michael Drake treasurer received a check from Mrs Ila Kr Hentwole treasurer of the Ladies Cemetery association dated 1912. Before Oak Ridge cemetery management passed to the city the Ladies Cemetery association staffed the grounds.
The Elk Hart county branch of the Anti-Saloon League will hold a county temperance meeting Monday in Goshen at the Presbyterian church chapel. The purpose is to organize for a statewide prohibition convention. FE Starbuck chairs and BE Vaamuys serves as secretary in the official notice.
Elkhart circuit court opens December term with one trial set for January 24 before Judge Drake. Case moved from Kosciusko involves value of Warsaw real estate taken for a school site. School board members and real estate owners dispute fair market price. Attorneys listed include Bertram Shane for the board and Brubaker & Son H W Graham J W Rouse for defendants.
Elkhart police suspect a tramp started a fire at the unoccupied home of Mrs Levi Z Himebaugh at 1551 South Main. The blaze in Lovelock caused about 500 dollars in damage with 1150 insurance. Mrs Himebaugh, now in Indianapolis, is the widow of a recently deceased husband. The fire likely began in upholstery and spread via interior finish, with heavy water used in extinguishing.
Mir Benjamin Yo Hershey of 620 Seventh Street purchased a fine residence from J W Dalyeat on Douglas Street. Mo Balyveat recently bought the property of Norman Galentine. The purchases are noted as among the fine residences in that section of the city.
The musical comedy September Morn has been adapted into tabloid form and is this week filling an engagement at the Palace theater in Fort Wayne as the Thanksgiving Day attraction at the Jefferson.
John Needhballa, an Elkhart resident born abroad, was returned to Longcliff disylum after an alleged violent act against his wife. Declared insane, he improved briefly, was paroled to Elkhart, then held again last night as officers report he believes he should punish his wife.

John C Maywald a Goshen resident died Friday afternoon at 5 10 pm at 509 South Third street at age 81 years 9 months 27 days after a year of declining health from a fall He was born March 10 1834 in Lohau Saxony Germany and served in the 48th Indiana Infantry in the Civil War fighting in Sherman’s march to the sea and at Vicksburg He lived in Goshen about 50 years and worked in furniture manufacturing later with Hawks Furniture Co He married Martha Elizabeth Doring in 1866 and after her death remarried Anna Katherine Doring He is survived by his widow three children Frederick Julius Maywald and J O Ebersole one grandchild Katherine Sveeman Funeral arrangements to be announced Monday.

Charles Richardson aged 22 of Wis was shot in the right leg this afternoon when his dog ran against the gun he used while hunting east of the city. Frank N Buck sues his wife Amy TLestie a Chicago drama reviewer for divorce in San Francisco. Buck twenty two years younger than his wife, married July 14 at St Joseph Michigan with Buck twenty three and the bride forty five at the time. Buck arrived from Texas six months before the wedding. Miss Leslie met him in Chicago while he was a bell hop at the Virginia hotel. The pair pursued reconciliation, press agenting Buck, while Chicago theatrical crowds knew him in cafes. Miss Leslie, now about sixty, had a prior marriage to Harry Brown, a comedian, whom she divorced.
