Columbus reports a decisive vote by the United Mine Workers convention affirming President Wilson’s settlement plan. Acting President Lewis notes the convention will abide by the commission findings and the agreed upon truce.
Local grocer, a longtime resident in the city, died after an illness lasting one year. Survived by his wife and daughter, he was widely known for his contributions to the town’s grocery trade. The funeral details are pending publication as the family prepares notices.

J M Farrell’s Buick sedan was badly damaged when an Interurban streetcar struck it at the Main and Washtudam streets corner. The driver Ed Miller escaped serious injury. The car’s engine stalled as the car track cleared and the streetcar reportedly lacked a headlight and signal. An expert from Seth Repd will assess repairs.
A weekly Kiwanis luncheon at the Alderman hotel featured speaker Revo Williani and Gleiser with selections by the Goshen College quartet. Guest Robert Proctor of Elklart attended the event.
Farmer Isus Tavier of Mulberry died five miles east of town after a tractor car collided with the truck he was driving. Police reported the crash details and investigation ongoing.
American citizen Asaberce Porter, of Fullerton California, was killed near Tampico after Mexican and American officials reviewed accounts. Mexican authorities initially said he was accidentally shot by a companion. later reports from Penn-Mex and the American consul indicated the fatal shot came from a federal army officer. Three other Americans were reported killed in Mexico yesterday.

Wilbur Gill of Warsaw, a wounded veteran, received back pay and learned his pension under the Sweet bill increased to 9 dollars a month. He had not known he was eligible for a higher pension.

Mrs. Melvina Fiat aged 53 was found dead at her home in Somerset near Wabash. The cause of death was recorded as a heart ailment.
Senator Underwood of Alabama warned in the Senate that he would press his resolution for a bipartisan committee to negotiate a Versailles peace treaty agreement if deadlock persists. He said he would not push the measure yet to avoid disrupting current efforts to reach an agreement.
