Goshen high school graduate Arthur Mathews plans to join Chicago University teams for football and track in 1902. Coach Stag aims to develop him for discus and shot put after a standout performance at the Lesh stock farm meet, where he set marks of 84 feet in discus and 98 feet in hammer, with high placing in other events. Aged P. L Locklin Injured in North Main Street Fall
P L Locklin a 76 year old Civil War veteran from the North Side suffered painful injuries after slipping on a cement sidewalk on North Main street as he left the fish market of David Van Horn. He jammed his left side on a wooden step and remains largely incapacitated with his left side affected. In sports the All Stars beat Big 5 by 181 pins in a bowling match at Regulation alleys. The All Stars won all three games and a rematch is planned for next week.

Enos B. 8 died after 32 years as Lake Shore car inspector at Elkhart. Belle Davenport aged 43 died at Longcliff asylum after three years there. Survives include wife, children, and siblings.

Decree Denies Relief in Bucklen Receivership Case
Judge Chetlain in Chicago denied all relief sought by Alexander P. Roberts son et al except payment by Herbert E. Bucklen of 14721.20 from company funds not authorized by the board. Complainants allege Bucklen unduly influenced the board and misused company funds to block dividends. City official Schmitz warns Niles bank directors to return 11000 school funds and about 20000 city funds or face prosecution.

Two remonstrances against Mesers Grass and McLaughlin for liquor licenses from Locke township were filed with Auditor Berkey. 346 legal voters named. 97 signatures withdrawn earlier. Wealthy Berrien farmer Burton Jarvis dies at 86
Burton Jarvis aged 86 a prominent Berrien county farmer died yesterday morning at his residence six miles north of Niles from pneumonia. He had lived in the county since 1842 and in his early years ran a freight boat on the St. Joseph river.
