Fire damages Miltenberger home after stove sparks

A small blaze at the residence of James Miltenberger at 612 No Main Street caused $25 damage last Saturday. Sparks from a stove ignited the carpet and burned a hole in the floor. the house filled with smoke when the family returned and no alarm was sent.

Telegraph lineman falls from pole in South Bend tragedy

George Nuil a Central Union tele e lineman fell from the top of a thirty two foot pole at South Bend and broke his neck. He lived an hour. The Lesh Abbott company re elected here last Saturday with F P Abbott re elected president and general teanager Lesh vice president and C W Miller secretary and nearer.

Writing from Manila dated November 1 describes muddy streets and near continuous rain. Mir Swartz, son of John Swartz, recalls four weeks aboard the transport Sherman and near starvation. troops on Luzon report sickness from fruit overindulgence while Monroville cavalry member recovers from fever. Payment practices and upcoming moves to Manila Harrocks are noted, with a 44 day letter delivery.

Mail arrivals and delays on inter urban route

The first mail reached at 7:30 car time about an hour late. An empty punch was sent back as Postmaster Cornell has yet to decide mail routing. Efforts aim to pay Sue newspaper train to Goshen for first trip delivery. if successful the 8 o'clock trip may be abandoned. Mail from the newspaper train is now brought up from Eikbart to the group.

Belle of New York and others light up South Hend

In the past year at the Auditorium the Belle of New York grossed 81 41 25 with Alice Niessen in Ene Fortune Teller earning 1 75 Olga Nethersoe in Toe sec sud Mrs Lauggideray grossed 1 161 50 and Ruecbard Mansneid in Cyrano de ber gerac over 32 000. Electric car derailment disrupts Goshen interurban service

A Goshen city electric car left the Dunlaps barn and jumped the track this morning, delaying all interurban cars for two hours. Trailing big cars ran late yesterday evening after previously staying on schedule. The snow sweeper was on site to clear the tracks.

City Council Orders Slower Streetcar Schedule

Officials announce a reduced streetcar timetable within the city limits. Cars now run only to Cosmo Works via Lincolne Avenue and Parkside, with westbound service limited to hourly interurban cars, causing inconvenience for riders toward the western city limits.

E M S Improves Curve on L S M S Line Between Toledo and Chicago

Work to straighten the big curve at Kankakee marsh along the L S and M S line will start next month with two steam shovels and two work trains. The project relocates gravel and relays track for about 1.25 miles and offers over fifty laborer jobs. Kendallville will see double track over twenty miles this summer on the air line.

Mrs Friedareich Fisher Bierling Brentine Dies in Elkhart

Mrs Fisher Bierling aged 63 died Saturday at the home of Albert Bierling in Elkhart after contracting spinal meningitis. Wife of Henry J. Fisher who died in 1881, she later married Bierling. Four sons and her husband survive. Remains brought here for funeral at Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday at 2 with Rev. C. B. Clensler officiating. Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Teachers' Annual Institute Opens in Goshen High School

Arrangements are complete for the county teachers institute to convene tomorrow morning at Goshen High School and run through the week. Prof. Rieman of Goshen and state librarian W E Henry will instruct. Poet W W Pfrimmer of Kankakee will entertain tomorrow evening. The Elkhart County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting Wednesday evening.
