Henry A. Muessel and Frank Chobot were killed by robbers last evening at the offices of Muessel Brewing Co. William Muessel Jr. was injured and is in Epworth Hospital with recovery expected. Robert Muessel was unharmed.
Two men tied to a South Bend brewery murder and robbery were seized at Indianapolis station as the Big Four train arrived. Held at gunpoint for questioning, they were released after police admitted error. Names were not learned. the men reportedly came to attend a water hearing before the public utility commission.
In South Bend a shooting at the Muessel Brewing Co. office leaves Henry A. Muessel and Frank Chabot dead and William Muessel Jr. and Robert Muessel injured. Suspects are in jail but no evidence links them. An attempted theft near a farm house west of South Bend is reported but no trace found. William Muessel Jr. may recover. Robert Muessel unhurt. Police from Goshen assist. no suspects named.
In South Bend on December 31 a crime wave culminated as two masked men shot and killed Henry A Muessel 34 and Frank Chobot 38, both Muessel Brewing Co employees, with a third person wounded. The attack appears to be a planned robbery of the Muessel Brewing office and involved an alleged organized gang. William Muessel Jr., 15, was wounded in the incident.
Four shots rang out during a closing time holdup at a South Bend office as two masked men forced entry and bound Robers Muessel 17 to a room. Henry Muessel a prominent local brewer and benefactor was killed. his nephew was wounded. The robbers escaped after looting the safe.
The Elkhart County coroner Dr Jacob W Mast reports 31 inquests in 1915, the fewest since he took office five years earlier. Entries include Murder 1, Drownings 2, Natural Causes 1, Steam Railroad Deaths 3, Electric Line Death 1, and Accidents 5 among others.
Mrs. John L. Snyder of South Bend receives a court award of 20 415 15 for the murder of her husband ten years earlier. The defendant Thomas T. Jelton was the killer, later jailed and pardoned.

Annual gatherings of the Farmers' Mutual Aid Association of Elkhart County and the Farmers' Mutual Wind Storm and Cyclone Insurance Co. will take place tomorrow afternoon at Stonex Hall. A band concert is planned for Saturday evening at the rink.
William Doering 338 a Goshen resident died at 8 30 a m at his home 924 South Eighth street after a yearlong diabetes illness He was born October 9 1862 in Harrison township and lived in or near Goshen most of his life Surviving are his wife Sarah two daughters four brothers and five sisters Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 pm at his home with Silas W Cline officiating Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery The body may be viewed Sunday afternoon and evening
The Shamrock Athletic club held its second annual rabbit supper last evening in the organization's rooms. A committee of Wilbur Tiedemann DeWitt Brundage and Mr Saylor organized the event. Music by the Shamrock orchestra and a contortionist act entertained guests with novelty boxing matches. Indoor baseball is planned for next Monday evening at 8 o clock featuring Mund Hens and the Shannocks. 1916 officers were nominated President Warren Utley secretary Gerald Rohn and others.
Rev Dr Henry W Bennett aged about 52 or 53 died at his Warsaw home yesterday shortly after dinner. He served as Goshen district superintendent from 1908 to 1913 and later as Mishawaka M I church pastor, then as conference evangelist before retiring in 1911. Survived by wife three daughters and two sons.
Grant Hafer a former Goshen resident who worked in the Lake Shorg Railway freight department died December 16 and was interred December 18. He moved from Goshen to Kalamazoo Michigan years ago and his death residence is not known. He suffered typhoid fever and hemorrhages, was ill ten days and treated in a hospital. Two daughters live in Goshen and he had two marriages.
Filward F. Carry will serve as the official head of the Haskell-Baker Car Works at Michigan City under the merger arrangement.
The Kikhart Gas and Fuel Company provides fuel to 735 poor families in the city. The effort supports residents facing hardship with essential heating needs during a difficult period.

John Rowell son of Mr and Mrs George P Rowell of this city underwent an operation today performed by Dr H A Fink of South Bend at Epworth hospital South Bend for the removal of adenoids and tonsils Mr and Mrs Rowell accompanied their son to the hospital.
A Ford touring car was purchased from the Kelly Garage by Charles Inbody of Goshen. The Lady Maccabees enjoyed a sleigh outing hosted by Mrs. Chas.
The First Presbyterian Sunday School named 1916 officers led by Superintendent C. D. Dolson. Appointments include Asst Superintendent C. A. Estes, Secretary Geo A. Cregier, and Treasurer Arthur E. Dewer. Organists Miss Beulah Kreider and Mrs. W. J. Armour. various department heads and assistants listed.
The Goshen district Methodist churches under Rev. Br. J. Wade plan evangelistic services in January and February. With 14,000 Methodists in the district a ten percent net increase is targeted this year. Daily 6 p.m. prayer, bells ringing in some churches, revival without professional evangelists. St. Mark's hosts in January and First Church in February.
Mignery & Son of Goshen closed 1915 books showing 224 392 35 dollars paid to farmers in Elkhart and adjoining counties since January 1. About 75 000 dollars more were paid through Allegan Lansing and Battle Creek banks. Northern Indiana and southern Michigan horse sellers are urged to contact the firm by mail or telephone.

Charles I Crane aged 70 a former Elk hart hardware merchant died in Detroit Michigan. The body will be interred in Elkhart. He came to Elkhart from the east more than 20 years ago and left there in 1905. Surviving are three daughters and two sons.
Ed Smith and Ben Kohler will own the South Bend Central baseball team as it joins the circuit next season. The announcement confirms new ownership and a planned entry into the league.

The congregation of the First Baptist Church will hold its annual meeting tonight at the church. Supper will be served, followed by a literary and musical program as a prelude to a watch meeting. All members are urged to attend. The band plays at the rink Saturday evening.

John Sack Rigney the actor son of Henry Rigney of Bighth and Center streets North Side is in critical condition at the Somerset hotel New York City with blood poisoning developed after trimming a coin. Relatives learned yesterday that amputation may be necessary and that he was moved to a New York hospital with doctors showing little hope.
