In Mal Paso Tabasco a five hour battle between government troops under Col Cuellar from Chihuahua and Gen Navarro from Pedernales against rebels ends without a decisive result. Rebels retreat to the mountains as 200 Vera Cruz troops join the field. Vice President Corral’s cancer worsens delaying return. Interventions by the United States discussed but unlikely. In Chicago, Mayor Busse names Assistant Chief Charles Seyferlicht fire marshal to replace James Horan.
An entire Rucker family was found asphyxiated from gas in Hammond Indiana. Mrs John Rucker age sixty Joseph Rucker seventeen Matilda Rucker twenty were discovered by skating party boys who found the son near a window unable to raise it. The mother and daughter lay together in bed. the father had reportedly deserted nine years earlier.
A Logansport street car collided with a Pennsylvania freight train at Third Street. The front end was crushed and the car toppled onto the right of way but a telegraph pole kept it from plunging into the Wabash river. Motorman John Rife and three passengers escaped unharmed.
Mrs. Toney Hefel in Muncie Indiana narrowly escaped gas poisoning after gas from a stove filled her room. She phoned for a doctor who arrived in time to save her life. husband James Faust a boarder also affected and in serious condition.

John D. Blue of Indianapolis has been retained by Ben Noble to defend him in the Decatur circuit court next Tuesday. Blue asks the county clerk for venue-change rules, signaling a move to transfer the case to another court.
A fire in a building owned by M. W. Gregory in Martinsville Indiana caused about 5000 dollars in damage. Jeweler Eugene Wilson suffered about 3500 dollars in loss covered by insurance. Wilson and his family were not home. Smoke and water damaged the grocery stock of George L. Rinker and the office of Dr. Frank Marwell above the store.
Chicago hogs receipts 15 000 with prices from 7.95 to 8.00 for choice heavies and 7.36 to 7.90 for others. Cattle receipts 5 500 with prime steers 6.50 7.00 and beef cows 8.85 9.00. Sheep receipts 10 000 with lambs 5.00 6.50 and yearlings 4.75 5.25. Potatoes 43 45c fancy, 38 42c fair. Omaha cattle 2 600 head strong market. Buffalo receipts hogs strong at 8.96 heavy and Yorkers, calves 3.50 8.00. Sheep steady, best lambs 6.20 7.00.
Rose Seidel Tressell pleaded guilty to manslaughter for striking Irene Cox who was nine. The Fort Wayne circuit court sentenced her to two to twenty two years but suspended the term. She paid John A Cox father of the victim six thousand three hundred dollars.
Miles Riggsby of North Anderson returns from Bellefontaine Ohio with his 8 year old son. Police had arrested Riggsby last week after he caused the arrest of his wife Bila and James Langley a Big Four fireman found together in Ohio. The woman had left home with the child and efforts to recover the boy followed.
