Fatal fall in South Bend hotel death of Goshen man
Coroner reports James Russ of Goshen died from a fall down the Gilmartin hotel stairs in South Bend. The body landed neck first, strangling him. Cause of the fall unknown though a trip while descending is suspected. Russ, related to Donahue of Elkhart and M. B. Russ of St. Joseph, has relatives arranging his burial at Mishawaka or Elkhart.

Two 15 year old girls Clara Kammes and Margaret Fox were burned to death when a gasoline saturating lamp exploded during a New Year’s rehearsal at a Catholic school in Monterey. Sisters and others sustained minor injuries while firefighters saved the building.

Murder Verdict Links Stepdaughter to Cadillac Crime
Melvin Thompson was killed on December 17 1907 by his 15 year old stepdaughter Pearl Harper in Cadillac Michigan. The coroner's jury found the blow with an iron poker while Thompson choked his wife was to defend the mother and that Thompson was drunk and abusive. Thompson, about 85, had lived near Cadillac four years with foster parents in LaGrange County.

Goshen College To Open Short Course In Agriculture
Goshen College starts its short course in Agriculture on January 2 and runs through January 30. Purdue University professor L A Caswell will lecture on soils crops livestock husbandry and dairying. Beating Charge Pushes Gwilt Case Toward Circuit Court

Mrs Anna Juday aged 94 died at home southeast of New Paris last night of old age. Widow of David Juday she leaves two sons Frank Juday and Henry Juday of Syracuse. Funeral is set for Monday at 11 a.m. at Solomon's Creek church Benton township with a 9:40 a.m. friends meeting at the residence. Interment follows in Solomon's Creek cemetery.

Death of Elisha Berkey Former Resident
William Berkey received word of the death of his brother Elisha Berkey at West Union Iowa. Elisha suffered a paralysis stroke December 16 after a buggy fall. He lived in Clinton township for many years and left the county about 30 years ago. Surviving are his wife and two sons O M of Chicago and Lewis at home. Also surviving are his brothers John and Jack of West Union and sister Mrs Sarah Zolinger of this city.
