He married Nancy Eaton in 1855 and Mrs N T Barnard in 1892. survived by his widow one brother three stepchildren and several step-grandchildren. Funeral at Brethren church Goshen Friday at 2 with cortege leaving home at 1 30. burial in West Goshen Cemetery.

The funeral of Judge John M. Vanfleet, former Elkhart circuit judge, was conducted at the Congregational church in Elkhart this afternoon. Rev. A. A. Ogilvie led the service. Members of the Elkhart County Bar Association and the Elkhart G A R attended. Friends from Detroit, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, LaGrange, South Bend and other places sent floral tributes.

Old Man John Shively Hangs Self in South Bend
John Shively a 71 year old resident of South Bend for 18 years committed suicide by hanging in his bedroom. Found by his daughter the rope was attached to a clothes-hook four feet from the floor and he appears to have strangled himself after bending his knees to the floor. The death was attributed to despondency over morphine use.
