A New York gang of blackmailers demanded $200 from Lincoln Davies, store owner near Utica, threatening death to his wife and daughters and destruction of property if payment was not sent. Davies received multiple letters from October to December, with installments offered if immediate payment failed. Police and postal authorities are investigating the case.

In Anderson Indiana Judge Bagot set the January 24 trial date for Frank Rickets charged with murdering his wife and Nettie Britton. The grand jury had indicted him on two counts of murder in the first degree and Prosecutor Brect Shuman said the wife’s murder would go first. Rickets remains silent in the county jail as to plans. Attorney John Teegarden has represented him but no arrangement is in place for defense at the call. Police Commissioner Frank Matthews, also an attorney, was approached by relatives but says he has not been retained.
Brook Indiana December 21 William Littlejohn wins the capital prize at Newton County Corn Show for the third consecutive year. The County Corn Club first offered a silver cup to the annual winner with a rule that three straight victories grant permanent ownership. Littlejohn has earned the cup and additional premiums at state and national shows.

Elmer Cornell a fugitive patient from the Southern Insane hospital fought Sheriff Raymond Scales and a Warrick deputy for twenty minutes at his home in Yankeetown Indiana. He slashed hands and his face was torn by the man’s teeth before authorities overpowered him and returned Cornell to the hospital.
Princeton Indiana December 21 two city street workers Andrew McClain and John Alvis were badly hurt when a cavern collapsed during sewer excavation. McClain suffered chest and side injuries with possible internal damage while Alvis broke an arm. Fellow workers acted quickly to prevent fatal suffocation.
Richmond Indiana December 21 finding the claim of Fountain Bank of Fountain City just Harris and Jarrett paid 2403.67 in circuit court on an account due to a bank bookkeeping error not caused by the defendants.
Five men killed in Gary Indiana in three accidents. James Birchell John Servi and Charles Posta track workers were struck by a Lake Shore passenger train and died instantly. Andrew Petrow died from freezing. Nicholas Majors a sewer builder was struck on the head by a timber.
Hoemer Ray Bern, 33, unmarried farmer at Munele, Ind, died after a horse kicked him while attempting to pick up a fallen line. He received the blow as he moved to assist the animal and died before medical help could arrive.
