Circuit court adjourns from Thursday to Monday January 3 1916 for a holiday break. Petit jury called, sessions re set several cases. December term to end January 22. Various divorces, alimony petitions, injunctions and probate orders noted with administrators appointed and bonds filed.
Northern Indiana Gas and Electric Co, led by C H Geist, petitions the public service commission to buy General Service Company and Indiana Lighting Company, controlled by Murdock interests, for 5.4 million pounds with ten year bonds. Cities affected include South Bend, Fort Wayne, Mishawaka and Plymouth as the merger proceeds.
The state department officials decide that General Villa shall receive asylum accorded political refugees should he enter the United States. The decision was sent to General Funston last night for transmission to Villa.
In Anderson circuit court a jury freed carpenter George Dunn after 20 hours of deliberation. Dunn had faced second degree murder charges over the death of his wife Josephine Dunn, who died after he kicked her in the stomach on August lind.
Roy J Bricker 25 of Kendallville entered a Kendallville hotel with Florence Baird 15 and Clela Goudy 16 both of South Milford. He pleaded guilty to rape and is held on 3000 bond. Harry Marin arrived and police jailed Bricker Baird and Goudy after the manager alerted authorities. Martin 19 charged with enticing a female under 17. Girls returned home as fathers were summoned.
The Bristol applicant William L. Nutting faces a fresh inquiry into his bar qualifications as the special committee that previously reported unfavorably is discharged. A new panel including George R. Harper LB. F. Deahl and A. B. Zook is appointed to investigate Nutting's fitness for admission to the bar.

Abraham Strohm longtime Goshen resident dies suddenly at 1 o'clock at his Plymouth avenue Main street home. The 1889 birth in Uxbridge township and Canada years marked a life of teaching, farming, and business including a New Paris store before settling in Goshen. Survived by wife Sarah Miller Strohm and three children Francis Melvin Clara Alice and Henry Milton. funeral plans pending with coroner inquest held.
Funeral services for Mrs Christian Unzicker were held Sunday afternoon at two o clock at her Fort Wayne road home southeast of Goshen. Six children attended: Cora of Chienvo, Mrs Clinton Zollinger, Daniel, Mabel, Pam, and Leslie of Goshen. Daughters M J Caslow of Portland Oregon and Joe Newhous er of Peabody Kansas were absent. Rev Paul F E Whitmer and Rev L Detweiler led the services. Interment followed at Violet cemetery south of Goshen.
In Huntington Justice Stuitz's court deputy fish and game warden Rigney arrested several violators. George Petrie was fined 25.50 for hunting with a ferret, Jacob Voght 16 for Sunday hunting, and Robert Yentis 16 for Sunday hunting. all fines paid.
Fourteen car loads of war horses were moved this morning via Express through here on the New York Central. The animals are destined for France as part of wartime transport.

Miss Lena Leidner will entertain at a six o'clock dinner this evening at her South Fifth Street home to announce her engagement to Fred Naylor of Milwaukee Wisconsin. Both graduates of Goshen High School in 1912, they are described as popular. Leidner is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Leidner. Naylor is son of Mr. and Mrs. John Naylor of Middlebury, formerly of Goshen, now with Corrugated Steel Company in Milwaukee. They plan to live in Rockford.
A LaCrosse dispatch reports ex President Taft in the city with grippe and possibly canceling engagements. He is due to attend the Knife and Fork club banquet in South Bend tomorrow night.
No funeral services were held for Mrs James Ordway of Stroh while two of her children were ill with scarlet fever at the Ordway home. The body was buried in Mt Pisgah cemetery.

Smith Tevi M. Smith, 66, died at his Osceola home after a four year paralytic illness. He had lived near Dunlaps for 28 years and moved to Osceola nine years ago. Survived by his wife, two daughters, and two sisters.
Mrs. Herman Boyce Jr. is seriously ill at her Pike Street home. Mrs. Frank J. Schmidt, once Margaret Ried, who underwent appendicitis surgery at General Hospital Elkhart, shows great improvement. David W. Neidig returns to the State Bank after several days ill at home. Jacob B. Cornel, a well known Goshen resident now with daughter Mrs. Harvey F. Lostwick in St. Louis, will undergo stomach and bowel surgery this week. his condition remains serious per a letter from him to D. Sherwin.
Mr and Mrs Nathaniel MecCon nell of Warsaw celebrated their 56th anniversary yesterday. They wed at the Weirick hotel in Warsaw, the site of Hotel Hays, on December 19, 1859.

Brother Michael Patrick Bergan, head of a Notre Dame university farm, died at age 72. He joined the Holy Cross order in 1891 and served the institution for many years.

The Bobbs Merrill Co of Indianapolis purchased the law library of the late P. J. Turner of Elkhart for 900 dollars, the appraised value. The firm plans to resell the library in Elkhart.
Mrs. Mary J. York, 64, formerly of Elkhart, died in South Bend where she had lived for 18 months. Her husband survives.
A white Leghorn owned at Pare due university laid 251 eggs in her first year, setting an unusual poultry record for the institution.
